Job Description - Asset Manager Gila River Power Block 2 & 3

The Asset Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the Gila River Block 2 and 3, ensuring compliance with safety standards, environmental policy and regulation, and financial objectives. This role oversees daily operations, helps coordinate maintenance activities, and leads planning and scheduling, and budget management. The asset manager collaborates across departments, maintains plant integrity, and optimized performance. Key responsibilities include work order oversight, capital project tracking, outage coordination, and root cause analysis. This position requires strong leadership, technical knowledge, and a commitment to proactive communication, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

Position-Related Responsibilities

Operations Oversight and Execution

* Direct and oversee the daily operations of Gila River Power Station

* Operate the plant in alignment with operating limitations and safety procedures, maintaining maximum reliability and minimum down time.

* Ensure all equipment is operated, tested and maintained properly.

* Ensure compliance with dispatching directives regarding generation limits and switching procedures.

* Assure that the plant operates with in generation limits, emissions requirements, and contractual agreements.

* Coordinate with the plant operator to ensure consistency in personnel matters and interpretation of the operations and maintenance agreement.

* Support outage scheduling and planning with plant staff and other departments.

* Monitor and optimize startup/shutdown decisions consistent with environmental and operating capabilities.

Planning, Scheduling & Work Order Management:

* Review and approve daily O&M schedules and work orders.

* Continuous review incoming work orders to verify accuracy and eliminate duplication.

* Work with plant operations and maintenance to help set work order priorities and job sequencing.

* Track, monitor and update key on key plant activities, including capital projects and in-service dates.

* Coordinate all activities with the planning, scheduling and procurement teams to minimize down time and disruptions to job schedules.

Budget and Cost Control:

* Help prepare and control the Operations and Maintenance budget.

* Help prepare and control the Capital budget.

* Maintain accurate and up to date budget and job cost information.

* Estimate costs and track expenditures for O&M and capital improvement projects.

* Work closely with plant accounting to monitor capital project costs and in-service dates.

Safety, Environmental and Compliance.

* Promote and support a safety-first culture by developing accurate procedures, checklists and logs.

* Maintain compliance with environmental permits and regulations.

* Coordinate inspections and audits including ACC compliance and address issues proactively.

* Implement RCA and lessons learned to minimize recurrence of issues. Following up on corrective actions.

Collaborations and Communication.

* Work closely with Wholesale Marketing and Generations and Management to determine market needs and adjust unit schedules accordingly.

* Partner with operations and engineering to support effective decision making and planning.

* Maintain open and proactive communication with all departments on plant status, updates and decisions.

* Send timely updates and notifications regarding major plant events or issues.

Technical Oversights and Problem Solving.

* Provide insight and technical guidance to operation and maintenance teams.

* Lead troubleshooting efforts and coordinate corrective actions to address plant issues.

* Use knowledge of overall plant processes to help resolve maintenance and operational challenges.

* Help lead root cause evaluations, corrective action planning and process improvements.

Support & Special Assignments:

* Assist the Manager of Remotes at other stations under the TEP, UNSE Generation Portfolio.

* May provide services to affiliates of the company subject to UNS Energy Code of Conduct and related Policies and Procedures.

Management Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the Company's management principles, policies and programs are consistently practiced and continually support the Affirmative Action Plan.

  • Assume fiduciary responsibility for operating the business and provide recommendations on cost improvement measures.

  • Ensure that the Performance Management program is administered uniformly and effectively.

  • Comply with and administer the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement when applicable.

  • Administers personnel functions, including recruiting, review and approval of job descriptions and salary classifications, and selection and placement of personnel. Participates in hiring, termination, promoting, assignment and direction of staff. Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laws, regulations and standards, company policies, practices and ethical obligations to investigate, evaluate and recommend appropriate resolution to employee complaints.

  • Promotes and participates in the professional development, personal growth and career planning of staff. Motivate, recognize and reward, coach, counsel, train; provide feedback to employees during performance reviews. Participates in Leadership Development programs.

  • Addresses disciplinary and/or performance issues, according to company policy, and communicates effectively with employees regarding corrective action. Has input into the adjustment of grievances and administration of discipline.

  • Plans day-to-day operations, estimates personnel needs and schedules and assigns work. Evaluate the structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

(Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Strong Organizational Skills

  • Must have the ability to build and maintain strong relationships across all company departments

  • Self motivated

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, Environmental, Business/Project Management or related field
  • Ten years of relevant experience, including supervisory duties, preferably in a combined cycle power plant; or twelve years of relevant plant experience, including five years supervisory duties, preferably in a combined cycle power plant
  • Power plant processes and operations, equipment, parts and plant layout
  • Ability to translate technical skills into business values
  • Budget preparation (O&M and Capital) forecasting and analysis techniques, KPIs, and financial impacts of work
  • Computer skills necessary to complete job requirements: regulatory requirements, TEP policy and procedures
  • Possess effective verbal and written communication and problem identification and conflict resolution
  • Principals and practices of supervision: labor agreement terms and conditions

Pay Rate: Salary determined based on candidates experience and qualifications.
