Job Title: Staff Accountant Department: Finance Department Location: Littleton, MA Reports to: Controller Career Stream: Individual Contributor Classification: Hybrid Compensation: The base pay of the budgeted range is $26.00-$33.72 per hour. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted hiring range based on factors such as relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, licensure requirements and/or skill level, and will be finalized at the time of offer. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: General Ledger and Financial Recording
- Prepare and post journal entries for recurring, accrual, and closing transactions
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure financial data accuracy
- Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes
- Research and resolve routine accounting discrepancies and reconciling items
Wire Transfer Processing
- Initiate, review, and validate domestic and international wire transfers in accordance with internal policies and regulatory guidelines
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of incoming and outgoing wire transactions
- Monitor daily wire activity for completeness, compliance, and potential fraud indicators
- Maintain accurate documentation for all wire transactions to support audit and regulatory review
- Collaborate with internal departments and external institutions to resolve exceptions or delays
Balance Sheet Management and Reconciliation
- Prepare and reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts, including cash accounts, member deposits and loans, ATM, ITM, and transit checks, internal accounts, and agencies
- Maintain accurate supporting schedules and documentation for account balances
- Monitor account activity for accuracy and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies
- Perform account analysis and assist with clearing outstanding items
Departmental Support and Process Improvement
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure proper recording of transactions and account coding
- Assist with documentation of accounting procedures and workflow updates
- Support internal projects related to financial operations, audits, and system improvements
- Contribute ideas for improving accounting processes, controls, and efficiencies
OTHER DUTIES:
- Adhere to all WCU policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Participates in department and/or organizational projects as directed.
- Performs other tasks or functions as required, requested, necessary or prudent from time to time.
- Maintains confidentiality of all members and credit union information and data.
- Regularly demonstrates behaviors as defined by the credit union's Fundamentals, which are part of the Workers Way culture program
EDUCATION:
- Associate's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
EXPERIENCE:
- 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a financial institution or credit union
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Knowledge of credit union accounting practices and ALM principles
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers/scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
- This role is currently classified as a Hybrid position. However, the classification is subject to change based on business needs.
