Astrion
Aug 06, 2025
Overview

Make a Real Difference - At Astrion, we are at the forefront of new missile defense technologies and engaged with the Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) rigorous engineering efforts to develop and deploy a layered Missile Defense System (MDS). This exciting, rewarding work helps guarantee the security of the United States, deployed forces, and allies. Join a professional team of highly qualified engineers, analysts, scientists and technicians supporting the research, development, testing and evaluation of the missile defense system whose purpose is to detect, track, engage and destroy adversary missiles.

Your typical day - Our MDA analysts and engineers work in modern, well-appointed government facilities at Redstone Arsenal. Redstone is located in Huntsville, Alabama, otherwise known as "Rocket City." Huntsville is the hub of missile and space research and development. You will collaborate with other missile defense experts - military, government civilians, and contractors from Axient and other companies. Our team of experts helps the Government manage planning, development and delivery of state-of-the art sensors, weapons, communications, and command/control systems.

What are your specific duties? - The Systems Engineer - Command, Control, Communications, and Battle Management (C3BM) will support systems engineering efforts include engaging in Command, Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) and Ballistic Missile Defense System Overhead Persistent Infra-Red Architecture (BOA) technical engineering and integration, future concepts, new functionality, and multi-national exchange designs. Systems engineering responsibilities include translating mission objectives into reference architectures, developing technical requirements in support of interface designs and participating in reviews/assessments of C2BMC/BOA engineering products. The ideal candidate will be responsible for design, development, integration and management of interfaces between systems, software, and hardware components, ensuring compliance with MDA/BC technical baselines.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Support definition and development of C2BMC/BOA system and subsystem interfaces using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and methodologies.
  • Develop and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Interface Description Documents (IDDs), Interface Requirements Specifications (IRS), and related technical documentation.
  • Use MBSE tools (e.g. Cameo Systems Modeler, Cameo Enterprise Architect, etc.) to model interfaces and system behaviors throughout the engineering lifecycle.
  • Analyze operational, functional, and system-level requirements and architecture to drive interface specifications.
  • Support integration and testing of C2BMC/BOA and MDS element's system interfaces in lab and operational environments.
  • Collaborate with system engineers and developers to design and define C2BMC/BOA system interfaces (e.g. hardware and software).
  • Participate in internal/external design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and interface control working groups.
  • Support risk identification and mitigation related to interface design and interoperability.
  • Support integration and interoperability product evaluations of C2BMC/BOA system based on future capabilities within MDA/BC builds through interface, requirements, product definitions.
  • Ensure compliance with interface standards, protocols, and system interoperability requirements.
  • Maintain interface configuration control and manage changes throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Assist with risk assessment and mitigation strategies related to interface development and interoperability.
  • Prepare technical assessments and reports for MDA/BC technical boards and working groups.
  • Prepare official meeting minutes and track actions items to closure.
