The WA Area Dams, Levees, Civil Works (DLCW) Business Class Lead is responsible for the vision, strategy, direction, risk management and overall success of their team within the Water Business Group in the state of Washington. We will count on you to lead a group of professionals in project delivery (studies, planning documents, risk assessments, and design and/or construction support services) for our clients in the areas of:
- Dams/Spillways and Reservoirs
- Levees and Civil Works
- Coastal, Tidal and Riverine Flood Risk Management
- General Site Civil for Local, State, and/or Federal clients
- Regulatory Compliance
In this role, we will count on you to:
- Take responsibility for local client development, area coordination, and technical competencies of business class staff and products to meet client needs and market drivers, all within direction and goals of business class plans.
- Work with the DLCWs BC Director in reviewing proposals, reports, design documents, and other submittals to ensure compliance with HDR MOA.
- Work with the DLCW BC Director in assigning PARR teams and in reviewing and tracking Project Approach and Resource Review (PARR) reports and critical projects within the Area. Lead or actively participate in PARR to support the DLCW BC.
- Participate in business class practice and professional discipline groups, project teams and activities to continually improve standards and best practices in support of the Business Group Managers, Department Managers, and the National Practice Leads, and implement effective quality assurance and quality control reviews.
- Participate in delivery of project services to meet client expectations.
- Participate in strategic local, regional, and national marketing pursuits and serve as the Client Service Manager for key clients.
- Facilitate business class teamwork, communication and work-sharing between offices, business classes, management, marketing, and staff.
- Collaborate on business class efforts with area operations, marketing, and project management.
- Provide strategic and tactical input on business trends.
- Function as a Principal in Charge, project manager, or technical lead on projects to oversee all aspects of small to large scale multi-discipline and multi-benefit projects with a high degree of technical complexity and the staff who perform the work and meet utilization goals of the team.
- Coordinate projects with inter-related disciplines such as hydrology, hydraulics, structural, geology, geotechnical, civil, CADD, and GIS.
- Participate in business class strategic planning, budgeting, and plan implementation.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand.
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Professional Engineer in Washington State or ability to obtain Washington PE license within 6 months.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse project team; and travel as required for project or other business assignments.
- Ability to function as an active team player in a diverse multidisciplinary environment.
- Experience with supervising staff and with business development.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
- 10 years of experience
- Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
- Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
- Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
- Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
