Position Description

Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Assess job or project materials requirements and prepares requisition for materials from supply warehouse or vendor. Maintains records of materials and labor expended on each project or job assignment.
  • Secures vehicle, equipment and areas of operations. Operates vehicles including pickups, trucks, vans, forklifts, trailers, lifts and tanks.
  • Advises shop foreman on job or project status and operational problems. Provides after hour overtime work as required; may participate in emergency callback roster on a rotating basis.   • Assists with on-the-job training program for personnel enrolled in the apprenticeship training program.
  • Attends scheduled meetings and training as required to maintain mechanical skills, technical qualifications and licensing requirements.
  • Installs, monitors and/or supervises electrical installations assigned to him/her.

Required Qualifications

Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Four years experience in designated trade or one year as a licensed journeyperson.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Minimum five years on-the-job experience as a journey electrician.
  • Supervisory experience preferred, but not required.
