Job Family Description

Information Technology / Operations Technology (IT/OT) professionals sculpt the technological framework of the organization through the creation and management of scalable and secure information systems. Charged with the development and deployment of solutions, they analyze short- and long-term requirements to enhance system functionality and efficiency. They design and refine software applications, ensuring integration with existing architectural paradigms while also developing network systems and infrastructure to support business needs. IT/OT personnel manage the organization's IT/OT landscape, guaranteeing the reliable operation of servers, databases, and other components of the technology ecosystem. By maintaining a secure and robust IT/OT infrastructure, they uphold the integrity and confidentiality of data while facilitating connectivity and accessibility. Information Technology / Operations Technology personnel continually adapt to technological advancements, ensuring the organization stays at the forefront of emerging IT/OT trends and is well-equipped to meet future challenges while maintaining secure and stable operations.

Discipline Description

In systems engineer roles, individuals focus on designing, implementing, and maintaining complex systems and infrastructure to support the operation and functionality of the organization's IT environments. Systems Engineers coordinate software application and database installation on server resources to ensure proper system setup and adherence to security standards. They are responsible for troubleshooting complex system wide issues involving all layers of the application and infrastructure stack and work with all other IT roles to ensure maximum system availability. Systems engineers install hardware, configure software, and deploy systems into production environments following best practices and industry standards. Systems Engineers are required to understand the technical design and implementation of all IT roles in order to develop system architecture to match business needs and maintain the availability of the environment. They are required to have knowledge of most business functions from both a systems perspective as well as practical implementation. This includes Purchasing, Budgeting, Project Management, Program Management, Security, Standardization, etc.

Discipline Description of a System Engineer Manager:

A System Engineer Manager is responsible for leading and managing a team of system engineers to design, integrate, and maintain complex systems throughout their life cycles. This role combines technical expertise with leadership skills to ensure that all system engineering projects are executed efficiently and effectively, meeting the organization's goals and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

* Team Leadership and Management: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of system engineers. This includes setting performance goals, conducting performance reviews, and providing professional development opportunities.

* Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans for system engineering projects. This involves identifying project goals, allocating resources, and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

* System Design and Integration: Oversee the design and integration of system architectures and solutions. Ensure that all components work together seamlessly to meet the desired outcomes.

* Project Oversight: Manage the entire lifecycle of system engineering projects, from initial concept through to deployment and maintenance. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, manage timelines, and ensure projects are completed within budget.

* Technical Expertise: Provide high-level technical guidance and support to the team. Troubleshoot complex issues, optimize system performance, and stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies.

* Quality Assurance: Ensure that all systems meet the highest standards of quality and reliability. Implement best practices, conduct rigorous testing, and continuously improve processes.

* System Security: Ensure that system security requirements are met and maintained. This involves implementing security measures, monitoring for vulnerabilities, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

* Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of system designs, configurations, and changes. Prepare detailed reports and presentations for stakeholders, highlighting key findings and recommendations.

Required Qualifications

* Eight or more years of experience (YOE) as an individual contributor in one or more of the roles managed, OR Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field plus five or more years of experience (YOE) in one or more of the roles managed, OR Master's Degree in a relevant field plus three or more year of experience (YOE) in one or more of the roles managed
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered

System Engineer Manager positions will have management responsibility for one of the (3) teams within IT Collaborative Technologies, currently named: O365, Groupware, and Desktop Management. Applicants should indicate in their cover letter which of these groups they are best suited to support. M365 Collaboration: Provides SRS Microsoft 365 cloud administration and security, including support for SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Power Platform (Power Bi, Power Automate). New scope in this area includes deployment of Microsoft Copilot and enablement of Modern Work practices utilizing M365 tools and services. Groupware / Email: Manages site email systems on SRSNet and in Microsoft 365, including the email data loss prevention (DLP) service. Other scope includes management and retirement of legacy HCL Notes
infrastructure and services. New scope includes administration of Microsoft Entra ID. Existing Mobile Device Management (MDM) is being transitioned to the Desktop group. Desktop Management: Manages the standard SRSNet desktop and software configuration. Additional scope includes management of the MDM to include configurations for iOS, iPadOS, MacOS, and other operating systems on supported end user devices. In addition to maintaining the existing technologies and implementing new scope initiatives, managers are expected to drive change in these areas to Shape the Future with innovations and improved solutions to enhance Digital End-User Experience.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
