We are looking for a Senior Advisor to provide decision-making support for the Commercial Atlantic Portfolio team. Reporting to the Senior Manager Portfolio Metal Atlantic and collaborating with different operating sites, logistics, procurement, finance and other support functions, you will lead the commercial strategy for the sales and marketing of aluminum products.

Working at the interface of sales and operations, the Senior Advisor will meet with customers to understand their needs and support Rio Tinto operations in addressing these evolving customer needs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide data-driven decision-making support for the Commercial Atlantic Portfolio team
  • Provide commercial, financial, technical and marketing input into the formulation of the sales and marketing strategy and objectives, which includes:
    • Supporting the sales team to optimize our sales portfolio both in the short-term and long-term
    • Supporting the sales team with price setting objectives
    • Definition of product and service portfolios
    • Reviewing and optimizing distribution methods
  • Analyze and reports on progress against sales and marketing objectives as required
  • Support the S&OP process by recommending the best options for strategic and tactical challenges at the interface of sales, operations, logistics, and procurement, which includes:
    • Working closely with S&OP team to present and communicate resolution options and trade-offs to senior management
    • Developing analytical tools to accelerate decision making and scenario planning capabilities
    • Consolidating and reviewing demand, production, and inventory forecasts
    • Matching production and logistics capacities with the demand forecast to assess critical demand and supply issues
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager Portfolio Metal Atlantic in the development of trading opportunities across our portfolio to complement our offer from Rio Tinto-owned assets
  • Promote value over volume approach to consistently deliver the highest margin sales plan

What you'll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will ideally have:

  • University degree, preferably in commerce, finance or engineering
  • A Master degree or MBA will be an asset
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience, preferably in sales & marketing, or in operations
  • Sound understanding of the aluminum industry and key drivers of profitability
  • Experience manipulating large datasets
  • Effective communication skills to interact with all levels of the organization
  • Self-driven, results-oriented, motivated, and proactive
  • Team player with sound values and integrity
  • Strong analytical skills and critical thinking
  • If applying for a position based in the province of Quebec, fluency in both French and English, spoken and written, is required. Rio Tinto is a global company, and the responsibilities of this role may involve collaboration with colleagues, teams, or partners located outside Quebec
