About the role Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs. We are looking for a Senior Adviser Occupational Health & Hygiene to join Rio Tinto Kennecott's Health and Safety team. This is an excellent opportunity to plan and implement RTK's occupational health and hygiene programs, including their systems, processes and procedures, and to ensure that legal and regulatory requirements are met. Reporting to the Manager HSE Risk & Governance, you will:
Cultivate and lead a proactive safety culture by modeling exemplary behavior and setting clear expectations for all employees and contractors Embed safety as a key priority in operational strategies, policies, and processes Maximize free cash flow through significant cost reductions and establishing rigorous cost discipline Establish a high-performance culture across levels to achieve excellence in all aspects of mining, smelting, refining, and rail operations, ensuring alignment with the RTKs turnaround objectives Lead and foster a workplace where Rio Tinto values of care, courage and curiosity are embraced, ensuring long-term viability, and maintaining a high standard of ethical conduct Provide clear performance updates to the Managing Director, senior leadership team, and key stakeholders, proposing solutions to address challenges and initiatives to seize opportunities Drive the changes required and facilitate difficult decisions to establish RTs "best operator" framework at the forefront of day-to-day operations to enable the front-line and eliminate non-value-creating work Support the monitoring of health performance within region of accountability. Assist in the implementation of the Rio Tinto occupational health and hygiene systems and processes within region of accountability and provide support to the operation. Assist in compliance with relevant statutory and legislative provisions, ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Management Systems. Recommend and implement solutions to improve risk across the workforce.
What you'll bring
A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team Bachelor's Degree or relevant experience and hygienist qualification 5-10 years' experience in HSE management, preferably in a mining, construction, or other industrial environment. Excellent knowledge of regulations and best practices, including expertise in HSE regulations Proven track record of successfully implementing HSE programs and initiatives. Excellent communication skills, accompanied by calm demeanor under pressure. Ability to perform risk assessments & develop mitigation strategies. Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence, develop, and guide team members. Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication, and presentation skills Effective stakeholder management and fostering relationships.
