THE ROLE

The Regulatory Lead Specialist is responsible for providing legal and operational support across the firm. Areas of focus will include oversight, management, and support for MFS retirement investment products such as individual retirement accounts. This individual also plays a key role in the governance of and legal support for MFS collective investment trusts, and will assist with corporate governance, entity management, and the production and filing coordination of offering and disclosure documents related to the foregoing.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Review and analyze retirement plan documents and work with counsel to amend plan documents, as needed.
  • Support the creation, governance, and distribution of MFS collective investment trusts.
  • Maintain corporate records and assist with the certifications and other legal materials relating to corporations and other corporate entities; assist with preparing and coordinating diligence materials; administering the distribution of legal documents and materials.
  • Assist Corporate Secretary in management of Board of Directors/Trustees and other firm committees, including meeting scheduling, preparing, and maintaining charters, resolutions, and minutes.
  • Implement and oversee complex, strategic projects, and significant regulatory initiatives.
  • Maintains awareness/monitors, tracks, and works with counsel and business partners/key stakeholders to determine applicability of and provide guidance related to international, federal, SEC, and state regulatory changes, in general, and as applicable to the organization.
  • Create and maintain procedures, practices, templates, or standards to effectively manage regulatory change.
  • Conduct periodic assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of procedures, processes, and operating practices associated with role, proactively recommending improvements to ensure adequate controls exist and are being utilized.
  • Manage and/or mentor team members on department policies and procedures, day to day tasks, and special projects.
  • Assist with or lead firm and department projects as needed.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor's degree and minimum of 5 years' experience within the Financial Services/Investment Industry or equivalent experience, with progressively increasing responsibilities and accomplishments.
  • Working knowledge of ERISA, in particular Title II and federal regulations governing individual and group retirement plan qualification under the Internal Revenue Code.
  • Persuasive communication skills and comfortable speaking to and/or presenting to individuals at all levels within the organization, as well as regulators, external business partners, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of MFS associates and outside parties across a multi-office and culturally diverse environment.
  • Ability to function with a high degree of independence, accuracy, and limited supervision, taking initiative, exercising discretion, and applying strong critical thinking and judgment.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to analyze operational effectiveness to achieve compliance with laws, regulations, ordinances, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and legal software applications. Must embrace the use of technology in the performance of the role.
  • Experience with retirement products and services preferred, with specific experience in the financial services industry as a secondary preference.
  • Prior experience in financial services product support, defined contribution compliance, or asset management preferred.
  • Notary Public Certification preferred.
