Director of Business Development (Vice President - Function Leader)

Role Description: Huitt-Zollars, Inc has a full-time opportunity for a Principal-in-Charge/Vice President for our Dallas, TX office. The candidate will have at least 15 years of experience and will be a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas. Duties include but not limited to, business development, mentoring staff, initial project research, management of plan production staff, plan processing and management of plan processing efforts, construction administration and project close out efforts.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.

Duties:

  • Align business development strategies with overall company goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve internal business development processes.
  • Analyze existing processes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of processes and procedures.
  • Partner with the Corporate Trainer to develop training that supports the seller-doer model culture, including sales lifecycle activities and client relations.
  • Streamline workflows to enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Execute and manage an enhanced proposal process, increased win and/or capture rate, and BD initiatives that support company growth goals.
  • Lead the proposal development team in preparing and submitting high-quality proposals, presentations, and other marketing materials.
  • Allocate resources effectively to support business development initiatives.
  • Work closely with the CMO to align business development strategies with overall company objectives.
  • Ensure effective communication and alignment between business development and other departments.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure BD initiatives are met.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of business development professionals.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Ensure the team is equipped with the necessary tools, training, and resources to succeed.
  • Establish annual performance metrics for the BD team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in business development within the AEC industry.
  • Experience with marketing automation tools and strategies.
  • Proficiency in Deltek Vantagepoint.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Strong understanding of the AEC industry and market dynamics.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to develop and execute detailed processes to support business development initiatives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategy.
  • Successfully and consistently functions as Lead Principal-in-Charge for their designated Practice Area in geographic market.
  • Competent, knowledgeable, service leader in the market(s) they service.
  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
  • Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
  • Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client). Verifies client satisfaction routinely and shares feedback with team.
  • Proactively works with PM to strategize resolving issues that impact project performance. Reviews progress with PM at least monthly (including & completes vs. % spent) and that PM is adhering to weekly rhythm.
  • Successfully contributes to the overall profitability and financial performance on projects.
  • Oversees staff deliverables and production assigned to their projects to ensure client, legal, and company requirements are met.

This position will office out of our Dallas, TX location in a 'Class A' office space including a state-of-the-art gym (no cost), covered parking, food court, and more.

Physical Requirements:
