About the Role:

Set up various types of welding machines and cutting equipment. Responsible to assist in various departments to help with testing needs. Responsible for onsite welding. Must be able to use various hand tools to install/ assemble test articles for testing.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Perform welding on a wide variety of metals per drawing specifications
  • Set up own welding machine and set to proper temps/amperage needed for the job. Select proper size rods for job
  • Weld basic multi pass positions to drawing specs
  • Mark/tag materials with proper job numbers
  • Inspect/clean materials for best finished weld product
  • Assist in other areas as needed to install, bolt, and tighten equipment needed for testing
  • Keep all work areas clean and free of hazards
  • Perform other duties as assigned

CORE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Normally follows established procedures and works independently on routine work, requires instructions only on new assignments. Works under general supervision
  • Performs welding work of moderate to advanced difficulty. Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature but recognizes the need for occasional deviation from accepted practice

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • HS Diploma or GED. AA degree, Vocational/ Trade School training or other related advanced courses is a plus
  • 3-5 years related experience
  • Working knowledge of welding materials and processes; flat, vertical, and overhead welding. Requires use of drawings, sketches, rules, squares, templates, burning torches, welding equipment, hand and power tools, hoists, and forklifts
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, blueprint reading, troubleshooting, problem solving skills. Ability to set up cutting/burning equipment adjusting proper pressure of gasses/oxygen to achieve pre-heating/cutting of materials. Able to clamp, tack weld, heat/bend, grind, bolt, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Test lab with exposure to sudden, loud noises

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
