We are looking for a Regulatory Compliance Specialist - Nutrition in 401 N Michigan Ave, Suite 1400, Chicago, IL 60611 USA. Your mission will be to:
The Regulatory Compliance Specialist for Nutrition Labeling is responsible for providing nutrition labeling compliance services to Merieux NutriSciences' food & beverage manufacturers, retail, import/export and restaurant customers. The specialist ensures that nutrition and menu labeling is carried out in accordance with various federal provincial guidelines. With expert experience in ESHA Genesis, this person can eassist implementin process improvements and capabilities as the customer base continues to grow.that are currently under-utilized. With menu labeling and project management skills, this individual would be responsible for leading menu labeling projects as well as completing and improving our current menu labeling processes for in-house retail programs and restaurants. This position encompasses a variety of nutrition, labeling and regulatory services to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and policies as well as leadership and a continuous improvement mindset regarding business growth and opportunities.Regulatory knowledge of allergens and ingredient statements, and the ability to research and determine international regulations are key to the growth expected in this role.
YOUR PROFILE
Main Activities:
* Review, interpret and evaluate food labels, nutrition labels, ingredient statements, allergen statements and other food labeling aspects to ensure compliance with relevant food regulations, as defined.
* Develop and consult on nutrition facts labels, ingredient statements and allergen declarations for menu labeling clients in the US and Canada as well as other countries if required.
* Develop and provide technical information to customers as needed regarding nutrition labeling.
* Address emerging regulatory issues pertaining to nutrition and menu labeling and ensure compliance with current and evolving regulations and ensure Merieux NutriSciences services meet changing needs.
* Become a the team expert for ESHA Genesis; evaluate and incorporate best practices and incorporate additional ESHA Genesis capabilities into department processes.
* Communicate cross functionally regarding current and emerging nutrition labeling issues and opportunities.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current nutrition and menu labeling regulations, regulatory activity and trends. Attend webinars and conferences as necessary to stay up-to-date. Complete industry training sessions as needed to stay current in nutrition, allergens and ESHA Genesis knowledge.
* Engage directly with sales, customers and the regulatory manager by participating in key customer or prospect meetings and calls.
* Develop, improve and maintain policies and procedures for department functions pertaining to nutrition and menu labeling.
* Train and mentor Merieux NutriSciences Regulatory Compliance Specialists. Oversee training and review and provide feedback on work as necessary.
* Works on company cross-functional regulatory projects as needed
* On occasion may include supplement facts review or creation
* Assist with marketing strategies for the department such as blog writing, educational course assistance, webinar creation, etc. pertaining to Nutrition and Menu labeling topics
* Other regulatory/labeling services upon request
At any time, the incumbent must behave and operate in an ethical and Code of Conduct compliant manner.
Knowledge:
* Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Nutrition or related science fields
* 5 to 10 years of related work experience (Food Regulatory Compliance or Affairs, Food Labeling or related)
* Registered Dietician
* Super User of Trustweell's ESHA Genesis software
* Knowledge of analytical chemistry testing required for nutrition label compliance
* Two years or more of menu labeling experience
Required Skills:
* Strong demonstrated knowledge in US and Canadian nutrition and menu labeling regulations (FDA, USDA, Health Canada). DSHEA regulations a plus
* Good knowledge of kitchen/restaurant practices, food product development and manufacturing processes preferred
* Good understanding of food safety and allergens
* Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with demonstrated customer service skills
* Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable working in a team setting
* Evidence of strong problem solving & critical thinking skills
* Intermediate mathematical skills
* Confident in speaking directly with customers to obtain information and conduct project management, as needed
* Strong system acumen and computer skills
* Proficient in ESHA Genesis
* Knowledgeable of US and Canadian Nutrition Facts requirements for retail as well as menu labeling
* Enjoys a challenge and finding solutions
* Strong organizational and investigative skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google applications
* Comfortable with working remotely on a virtual team
Management:
This position has no direct reports.This position falls under the Labeling Compliance & Nutrition Services business unit. The team consists of one Director; one Manager, Labeling; one Manager, Information Services, one Sr. Labeling Compliance Specialists, four Labeling Compliance Specialists
Work Environment:
The position primarily works in an office environment. Physical dexterity is necessary to effectively manipulate a keyboard. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a sitting position. Periodically, the position may lift up to 50 lbs. Occasional Some travel is required.
Compensation Package Overview:
Compensation Range $75,000 - $90,000 annual salary
Potential bonus: Up to 3% based on performance.
