SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEER - WIRE HARNESS

SOUTHFIELD, MI - WORLD HEADQUARTERS

As a key member of the Core Wiring team, the Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for developing and analyzing advanced E/E vehicle system architecture studies. This includes the design of power distribution units and ground distribution strategies. The role requires interpreting electrical schematics and 2D drawings, applying the latest technologies in switches, electronics, connectors, and junction boxes, and optimizing wire harness layouts and E/E component distribution.

The engineer will conduct design optimization studies, evaluate system-level impacts across the vehicle, and ensure alignment with specifications, quality standards, cost targets, weight constraints, and delivery timelines. Additionally, the role involves creating vehicle and subsystem schematic diagrams to illustrate power distribution and grounding architectures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and maintain device transmittals, electrical loads, and special requirements (e.g., twisted pairs, shielding, resistance, voltage drop).
  • Understand logical subsystem connections (e.g., radio, amplifier, speakers).
  • Design and evaluate power distribution components (PDC, SJB, BCM) including fuses, relays, and circuit breakers.
  • Develop vehicle grounding strategies, including partitioning of clean and dirty grounds.
  • Assess vehicle topologies, component layouts, network architecture, and grounding schemes.
  • Perform trade-off studies to support design optimization.
  • Ensure adherence to project timing and prioritization.
  • Validate compliance with system-level specifications and requirements.
  • Interpret module I/O requirements and their impact on system design.
  • Understand wire harness complexity, circuit coding, and interpretation.
  • Conduct benchmarking of systems and architectures.
  • Utilize Capital tool logic for schematic development, harness design, and system validation.
  • Integrate Capital tool workflows with vehicle architecture and engineering processes to ensure seamless data flow and traceability
