Job Description

PURPOSE:

Under close supervision and guidance, a knockout operator performs all required knockout operations to remove shell material from a casting following established methods and procedures. This individual will operate a wheelabrator, knockout machine or water-blast unit and all other machines and hand tools as directed.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

* Perform all vibrating operations to remove investment material from casting in preparation for finishing operation. Operate knockout equipment and water-blast unit.

* Operate vibrating machine to remove as complete as possible investment material from casting. Make simple changeover of bits. Obtain investment castings from racks and dispose of as required when operation is complete. Exercise care in handling to avoid unnecessary breakage or damage.

* Maintain identity of castings. Snap tab off shell, grind tab to clean and smooth finish, scribe identifying data on tab. Run tab through Kevex test to check acceptability and type of alloy.

* Operate spinblast and perform other duties as required or as directed.

* Uses hammers to knock off more resistant areas. Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Follow safety regulations.

* Transfer parts into and out of work area.

* Perform other tasks of equal or less complexity as assigned by supervisor or as required by position.

* Maintains or exceeds production rate with acceptable quality.

* Maintain Dept. log for record keeping on kevex check requirements.

* If qualified, operate forklift to move heavy parts


SPECIAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Perform repetitive operation to remove investment casting from ceramic shell following established methods and procedures; clean castings. Requires the use of some judgment to make simple machine setups; avoid damage to parts.

* Considerable physical effort handling flasks and performing knockout and related duties. Equal to frequently exerting average effort.

* Continuous mental or visual attention required to performing knockout operations requiring constant alertness and activity.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

* Reports to Pre-Fin lead person and Pre-Fin supervisor.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

* Able to read, write, comply written verbal instructions and established routines.

* 3 months manufacturing experience preferred.
