The Position

The Port of Portland is hiring a Building Maintenance Mechanic at the Portland International Airport!

As a Building Maintenance Mechanic at the Portland International Airport (PDX), you will provide skilled labor to maintain PDX facilities and systems. You will also participate in training required to support maintenance activities to Port Aviation facilities as identified by PDX management.

From water treatment systems to passenger loading bridges, the Building Maintenance Mechanic team keeps facilities at Portland International Airport (PDX) in tip-top shape. NOTE: Per labor agreement, hours are bid by seniority. Selected candidate must be available to work all assigned shifts including day, swing, and/or graveyard schedules on any day of the week.


Essential Job Duties

  • Perform repairs and/or replacements to the Systems and/or Equipment as follows:
    • Passenger Loading Bridges
    • Backflow Preventers
    • Deicing Systems
    • Fire Protection Systems
    • Door Security Systems (doors & locks)
    • Compressed Natural Gas
    • Revolving, Sliding and Overhead Doors
    • Plumbing Systems - Sanitary and Storm Lift Stations
    • Trash Compaction Systems
    • Carpet, Glazing, and Finishes
    • Sign Fabrication (all applications)
    • Car Wash System
    • Dock Levelers
    • Roofing and Roof Drainage Systems
  • Other duties as assigned by PDX management in accordance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Experience: Journeyman level knowledge, skills, and experience; or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
  • Maintain a valid state driver's license is required.
    • Class B commercial driver's license at time of hire is preferred; or the ability to obtain one within the probationary period is required. All CDL training costs and licensing fees will be paid for by the Port of Portland.
  • Must successfully pass and maintain clearance of a comprehensive Criminal History Records Check and a Security Threat Assessment for a PDX Security Badge, are required.
  • Journeyman level experience in:
    • Passenger bridge mechanic
    • Plumbing
    • Fire system maintenance
    • Piping and pumps
  • Carpentry skills and experience with:
    • Paint Finishes
    • Sheetrock repair and installation
    • Interior finishes and repair

Supplemental and Selection Information

SELECTION PROCESS (tentative schedule):

  1. A minimum qualification evaluation of education, training, and experience of submitted application packets will take place by Human Resources the week of August 25, 2025.

  2. A Subject Matter Expert (SME) Panel will perform an evaluation of experience and training taken from your employment application materials including any responses to the supplemental questionnaire.

  3. Our goal is to schedule first round interviews with candidates that successfully passed the SME evaluation step as soon as possible after the application close date.
