JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Earth and Mineral Sciences Museum & Art Gallery invites applications from Penn State students to fill part-time (up to 20 hours/week), hourly positions of museum gallery attendants. EMS Museum gallery attendants are the first contact museum visitors have with the exhibits and collections of the EMS Museum-earth materials, technology, and Steidle Collection of American Industrial Art.

The mission of the Earth and Mineral Sciences Museum & Art Gallery is to serve the college, university, and broader community as an informed educational and technical resource for science, art, and history of the earth and mineral sciences through the preservation, utilization, and promotion of our diverse collections. The EMS Museum gallery is located on the ground floor of the Deike Building, University Park campus.

Applicants should:

  • be curious about the intersection of earth materials, technology, and art
  • be willing to learn about the intersection of earth materials, technology, art, and museology
  • enjoy interacting with museum visitors and working with museum professionals
  • be friendly, attentive, and professional

Typical job duties include:

  • greeting gallery visitors
  • interacting with visitors and answering questions
  • participating in museum special events
  • ensuring the museum gallery and exhibits are safe and secure
  • assisting with exhibit maintenance and installation
  • assisting with museum collection management and curation tasks

We welcome applications from students in all majors. Experience is not required and training will be provided. Regular gallery hours are Monday-Friday 9:00am- 5:00pm.
