Departmental Overview

Arts and Lectures (A&L) is a large, robust, complex, primarily self-supporting, nonacademic unit that supports the academic mission of the university. A&L is the largest presenting organization between Los Angeles and San Francisco, and is one of the most visible, public-facing departments at UCSB. Through more than 150 events annually, A&L partners with faculty and academic departments, community organizations and leaders, university administrators, philanthropists and funders to create opportunities that integrate with and complement university curricula and create community connections.

Brief Summary of Duties

Under the supervision of UCSB Arts & Lectures' Marketing Manager, the Marketing Specialist provides a broad range of administrative, marketing and event functions in support of Arts & Lectures. This position contributes to the marketing team's implementation of innovative multi-channel marketing strategies that drive both awareness of the organization and ticket sales for its individual performances, films, lectures and special events. Using independent judgment and maintaining a superior level of professionalism and initiative, the Marketing Specialist executes duties related to general marketing, graphic design, content creation, logistical planning, event staffing and administrative support.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years marketing analysis and data compilation
  • 1-3 years administrative support in a professional setting
  • 1-3 years general marketing, graphic design, content creation, logistical planning and website management

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-3 years professional experience in event promotion
  • Knowledge of or experience in some area of performing arts
  • Ability to work nights and weekends

Responsibilities

Administrative Support & Event Promotion - 40%

Maintain schedules and calendars for marketing projects and initiatives. Assist in compiling and analyzing marketing and ticketing performance data to inform marketing strategies and departmental planning. Support the compilation and formatting of marketing and program materials, ensuring brand consistency and that contractual requirements are met. Research, solicit, secure and track program advertising and manage invoicing. Track expenses for recordkeeping and reconciliation, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Organize and maintain physical marketing archive as well as digital asset libraries. Coordinate the distribution of promotional materials across campus and in the community. Assist with soliciting promotional partnerships and group sales as well as creating specialized direct mail lists. Provide general administrative support and contribute to the upkeep of the marketing area, helping with other task as needed.

Digital Marketing & Communications - 30%

Support the development, creation and distribution of email marketing campaigns and newsletters. Support day-to-day website management, ensuring content is updated, accurate, ADA compliant and aligned with Arts & Lectures brand and strategy. Collaborate with the marketing team to align digital efforts with broader marketing campaigns. Track digital engagement metrics and contribute to performance reports.

Content Creation, Graphic Design & Video Editing - 30%

Help write and proofread copy for print and digital materials, including brochures, flyers, emails, social media posts and website updates. Support the creation and scheduling of compelling social media content, including graphics and videos. Ensure brand consistency across all digital content and marketing materials Assist in designing promotional materials and editing video assets using tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite. Attend performances to capture media, engage patrons, assist with audience feedback collection and represent the Arts & Lectures marketing department.
