DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will engage in a comprehensive and structured on-the-job training program designed to enhance your skills in the analysis, preventative maintenance, and repair of various construction equipment, trucks, and automobiles powered by gasoline or diesel engines. This training will provide you with practical experience in maintaining and repairing a range of machinery, including sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders. Your tasks will involve diagnosing repair needs and assisting in the replacement of critical components such as shock absorbers, transmissions, hour meters, clutches, and brakes. Additionally, you will be responsible for conducting wheel balancing and alignment checks, performing minor body repairs, and testing, repairing, or replacing alternators and other electrical components.
Moreover, your responsibilities will extend to preventative maintenance activities aimed at keeping vehicles and equipment in peak operational condition. This will include automotive mechanical diagnostics, tune-ups, tire changes, and the repair or replacement of engine subassemblies. You will also adjust and repair various systems, such as cooling, suspension, electrical, heating, and air-conditioning, while ensuring the proper functioning of fuel injection, brake, steering, and transmission systems. Furthermore, you will assist in the repair or rebuilding of construction or shop equipment, contributing to the overall efficiency of operations.
As part of your duties, you will participate in official state inspections for safety and emissions on assigned vehicles, when applicable. This will require you to perform necessary repairs to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, conduct road tests, and complete inspection stickers to be affixed to vehicles. You will also maintain accurate State Inspection Records and related documentation, ensuring that all inspections are thoroughly recorded and compliant with state regulations. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- Dual shifts, overtime, and travel may be required. Work hours subject to seasonal change.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years as a Tradesman Helper (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
working in the automotive field; or - Graduation from a post-high school diesel technology curriculum of an accredited trade or technical school; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Conditions of Employment:
- This position requires employees to possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit or License on the first day of employment.
- This position requires employees to possess an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- This position requires employees to obtain a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period.
- This position requires operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
- This position will require employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
