THE POSITION

Do you have a background in administrative and advanced technical management? The Enterprise Technology Service Office is looking for a skilled professional that has experience working in a large-scale, complex information technology (IT) environment to join our Database Administration Section as a Database Administrator 2. This position allows you to showcase your expertise to ensure the integrity and availability of all databases that support PennDOT's 24/7 production systems. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Database Administrator 2, you will be focused on prioritizing workloads, allocating staff resources, and establishing policies and standards to meet department requirements. You will be responsible for overseeing change management, software upgrades, and disaster recovery efforts in coordination with internal teams and external vendors. Work involves making critical decisions during production incidents in order to maintain data integrity and availability. You will have the opportunity to lead procurement activities, including RFP preparation and vendor evaluations, ensuring compliance with Commonwealth policies. Additionally, you will be responsible for driving system modernization and database performance initiatives, providing expert guidance on multi-platform database management and standards.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Database Administrator 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Six years of information technology experience that includes three years in the analysis, design, and maintenance of databases in overall support of database administration; or
  • Four years of information technology experience that includes three years in the analysis, design, and maintenance of databases in overall support of database administration, and an associate's degree in any information technology field; or
  • Two years of information technology experience in the analysis, design, and maintenance of databases in overall support of database administration, and a bachelor's degree in any information technology field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires three or more years of full-time professional IT experience working in an IBM mainframe environment.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
