JOB TITLE:

Assistant Professor

JOB PURPOSE:

The Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology invites applications for one (1) tenure track position in Criminal Justice starting Fall Semester, 2026. This position will be hired at the Assistant Professor rank.

The successful candidate will have the capacity to teach key courses of need in the curriculum, with a particular interest in candidates who specialize in policing, and other systems-related courses, such as corrections, comparative criminal justice, terrorism, and ethics. The University of Wyoming's teaching load is 5 courses per academic year, with course reductions possible. Research specialization is open, but we are eager to find candidates whose interests complement existing areas of research expertise, as well as those who address issues of relevance to the state and region.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teach 5 courses over the academic year
  • Maintain active scholarly research and professional development
  • Advise and mentor students
  • Provide service to the department, college, and university

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

As Directed

COMPETENCIES:

Assistant Professor rank with the capacity to contribute to teaching in key areas of need, with a particular focus on policing and other systems courses such as corrections and ethics.

WORK LOCATION:

On-campus: This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States, as sponsorship for any work authorization or work visas is not available for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related field at the time of appointment. A Juris Doctorate degree alone does not fulfill the employment requirements.
  • Demonstrated record of - or potential for - peer-reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in Criminal Justice at the college and/or university level. (Experience as a teaching assistant at the college or university level meets this qualification).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to teach policing courses
  • Ability to teach in areas of need within our curriculum related to criminal justice systems to include corrections, or comparative criminal justice, ethics, or terrorism.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain an active research agenda leading to peer reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college and/or university level.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to the delivery of our undergraduate program with traditional classroom instruction and online education.
  • Potential for grant activity.

  • Ability to develop and maintain an active research agenda that will lead to peer reviewed publications and potential for grant activity,
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college and/or university level,
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to the delivery of the Criminal Justice undergraduate program (traditional classroom instruction as well as online education),

3) Summary of teaching evaluations, and evaluations from the two most recent courses (if available)
