A Brief Overview This role will support cardiac center data registries. Responsible for clinical data abstraction and for recording reliable clinical data for clinical data registries and patient cohort databases as used for measuring and monitoring clinical outcomes. Works closely with clinical teams and members of clinical quality improvement teams and other special projects as identified. Also responsible for a portfolio of data abstraction projects: defining new data registries and data dictionaries, developing and maintaining operational manuals, working with outside collaborators, registry partners, and software vendors, and for partnering with data management team to transform data into easily consumed information. Assists with training and mentoring other data coordinators.
What you will do
- Serves as data coordinator point person on one or more clinical data registries
- Develops and maintains operational manuals (SOPs) as current knowledge of data registry and/or data registry reporting process as well as changes to various data definitions.
- Coordinates completion of training and inter-rater reliability certification for all personnel that collect data and ensures that data collection begins only after necessary training and certification.
- Demonstrates appropriate utilization of data collection staff resources necessary to obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the registry database.
- Identifies streamlining and process improvement opportunities in the data collection process.
- Ensure clinical data management best practices and knowledge thereof in a standardized, transparent, and efficient manner.
- Assume responsibility as a partner for the planning, resourcing, and execution of relevant internal and external data management activities to obtain high quality databases within a specified timeframe.
- Works collaboratively with data collection teams across CHOP and will coordinate data abstraction and data registries in sync with other data collection efforts
- Serves as site coordinator for external data registries and is the key contact from CHOP for all communications with staff.
- Participates in teleconferences with external data warehousing and technical vendors for data collection harvesting and data QA/QC processes.
- Coordinate data transfers, data reconciliation efforts with external data warehousing
- Participate in teleconferences and email list services as collaboration with peers from other institutions.
- Abstracts and collects data from hospital admissions, patient demographics, diagnoses and comorbidities, interventions and procedures, hospital adverse events, and hospital discharge.
- Utilizes paper charts, flow-sheets, CQI meetings, bedside rounding, and hospital medical record systems as "source" for abstraction and recording data to clinical registries and cohort databases
- Abstracts data both concurrently and retrospective and performs data entry of data elements conforming to registry data dictionary and nomenclature/terminology standards.
- Confers regularly with MD and RN clinical care teams to reconcile conflicting information or locate missing data elements
- Attends weekly CQI meetings and/or bi-monthly Morbidity & Mortality conferences to present data and to ensure that data abstraction efforts are aligned to clinician reporting needs
- Successfully completes the data registry training/certification program for chart abstraction.
- Participates in data QA/QC processes as audits for ensuring highest quality data capture.
- Query data inconsistencies in compliance with data registry standard operating procedures, data collection guidelines and applicable data definitions
Education Qualifications
- Technical Diploma Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse Required
- Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- At least five (5) years ICU experience or RN or LPN Required and
- At least eight (8) years Intensive Care experience and/or data collection or quality reporting experience Required and
- At least one (1) year experience in hospital surgery department, critical care unit, clinical research, or complex care center Required and
- At least one (1) year in clinical data abstraction, clinical trials, or outcomes research Required
Licenses and Certifications
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required or
- Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required

$89,840.00 - $114,550.00 Annually
