Job Overview
The Vehicle Operator, Wrecker will utilize a heavy-duty wrecker / tow truck for transporting vehicles or equipment to and from designated requested locations. Towing involves, but is not limited to, large vehicles, cars, vans, and other equipment. The wrecker operator is expected to respond to requests in a timely manner as outlined by the Air Force (within 1 hour during duty hours and 2 hours during non-duty hours). This is a full-time, onsite role at Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, AL. Work Model: Onsite
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Job Functions:
- Respond to accidents, breakdowns, and roadside incidents as tasked by dispatch, maintenance, or management.
- Transporting vehicles and equipment to and from designated locations
- Perform pre- and post-trip inspections on towing equipment and supplies
- Determine appropriate equipment and materials needed to provide wrecker services.
- Quickly determine a course of action for moving the damaged vehicle or equipment.
- Fully trained on the proper and safe operation of the wrecker/tow truck and complete refresher training as required and/or needed.
- The wrecker driver must utilize appropriate communicative skills, present a professional appearance, and be willing to work a flexible work schedule.
- When Wrecker driving duties are not assigned, this role will be dispatched to drive any other vehicles.
- Recognize safety hazards and risks and notify your supervisor or the on-site unit representative immediately.
- Be aware of changing conditions while performing wrecker operator duties.
- Must wear required PPE and steel-toe boots while operating the equipment.While on shift, when dispatched on Wrecker runs, the assignment cannot be turned down, regardless of seniority. All dispatched runs are a required assignment for mission support.
- While on shift, and not currently dispatched on a Wrecker run, you will be dispatched on any other needed vehicle run. These assignments cannot be turned down, regardless of seniority. All dispatched runs are a required assignment for mission support.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License with "P" and "S" endorsements. with acceptable driving record pertinent to the position.
- Possess and maintain a current DOT medical certification.
- Successful completion of required training and wrecker Certification.
- Expected to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
- Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.
- Ability to obtain access to U.S. Government Installations through the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS).
- U.S. Citizenship.
