Summary: The Worker's Compensation Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative support to the NC Health Workers' Compensation Program in accordance with state and federal guidelines, under the direction of the Worker's Comp Nurse Practitioner Navigator. Manages workers' compensation caseload, completes regular reporting, performs data entry, and counsels teammates on issues such as return to work. Responsibilities: Assists the Worker's Comp Nurse Practitioner Navigator in managing the caseload of all workplace illness/injuries covered under workers compensation with the goal of ensuring that the injured teammate receives appropriate care, follow-up and successfully returns to work as quickly as possible.Coordinates the administrative functions of the Workers' Compensation Program for the NC Health System including investigating teammate incidents, managing current cases and serving as the point of contact for all documentation needs.Completes data entry into appropriate systems including follow-up visit notes and maintaining days lost and restricted duty. Ensure forms are filed with the workers compensation carrier in a timely manner. Ensures proper paperwork is completed regarding leave of absence and/or the filing of Family Medical Leave. Communicates timely with teammates and managers regarding payroll and proper coding of the time record. Communicate with the teammate and manager in the processing of FMLA running concurrently with worker's compensation. Facilitates referral to Human Resources Benefits if necessary for benefits continuation. Works with the Finance team to ensure proper processing of billing.At the direction of the medical providers and the Worker's Comp Nurse Practitioner Navigator assists in the scheduling of appointments for physical therapy, radiology, outside medical providers or return appointments with the appropriate medical providers to ensure consistent clinical oversight of treatment.At the direction of the Worker's Comp Nurse Practitioner Navigator, assists in the placement of the injured teammate into alternative assignment while on restricted duty including communication with the injured teammate and the home department manager. Should the teammate be unable to work in their home department, proper communications are completed with the host department manager on a timely basis. Ensures proper communication regarding payroll coding when the home department is unable to provide restricted duty. Provides follow-up on a systemic basis with the injured teammate, home department manager and host department manager regarding their work status.Assists legal counsel in preparing for hearings and mediation as necessaryCoordinates and participates in quarterly team training to identify problem areas within the current process. Audit claims that have been open for more than 6 months to determine proper time for closure. Identify and remove barriers that may prevent teammates from reporting work related injuries in a timely manner.Review trends within departments and areas of injury to identify cause. Work closely with Worker's Comp Nurse Practitioner Navigator and department leaders to maintain a safe work environment for all teammates.Other Information Education Requirements: High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Licensure/Certification Requirements: None Professional Experience Requirements: Two (2) years of related HR experience preferred. Prefer candidates with experience in a technical capacity involving the application of North Carolina Worker's Compensation and OSHA guidelines, as well as demonstrated knowledge of short-term disability, long-term disability, FMLA and other leave related laws. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements: Worker's compensation adjustor training preferred. Mediation and conflict resolution skills preferred. Strong computer skills. Demonstrated strong customer service.
