Overview

The Clinical Data Specialist I needs a strong understanding of the products offered at Myriad and the clinical histories that are appropriate for each product. They will ensure that appropriate testing was performed as requested by the health care provider and contact providers to resolve any issues prior to testing. They will review all test results in conjunction with clinical histories and ensure the best possible patient care was given to each and every patient prior to sending out a report to the health care provider. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and strong work ethic are essential to being successful.

This is a technical position. You must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a biological, chemical laboratory science or medical technology area in order to qualify.

Shift: Weekdays with the option of 5x8's or 4x10's

Responsibility

The Clinical Data Specialist I (CDS I) role is responsible for:



  • Evaluating the clinical history of a patient in context to the test as it is first ordered and then performed together with the test results.
  • Generating reports and querying in-house data bases and on-line resources to provide information about individual patient's genetic test results and to answer questions about cumulative statistics pertaining to genetic test results.
  • Performing clinical data entry and validation to ensure completeness and accuracy of data.
  • Recognizing inconsistencies and initiating resolution of data problems.
  • Assisting Research Coordinator in research collaborations with academic investigators for product development.


Each employee's specific job responsibilities are uniquely defined by their individual training plan and assigned duties, but are generally defined as follows:

Reporting:



  • Check all reports in a timely, error-free manner to maintain the goals of production.
  • Generate manual and/or custom reports and uncertain variant forms.


Client Support:



  • Respond to client inquiries in a timely, expert, and effective fashion.
  • Initiate appropriate contacts with clients as necessary, pre- and post- test.


Clinical Knowledge:



  • Pursue continuing education and expand knowledge and skills; attend training with Medical Information Liaison (MIL) team.


Administrative:



  • Maintain databases in an appropriate manner.


Organizational Interactions:



  • Maintain productive and collegial relationships with other MGL departments.
  • Support and assist Laboratory Directors.
  • Support and assist other Medical Services groups.


Leadership:



  • Model values of Myriad.
  • Identify unmet needs and/or process improvements.


Qualifications



  • Meets minimum education and experience requirements:

    • Doctoral, master's, or bachelor's degree in medical technology or a chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science.
    • Minimum 1 year of pertinent experience and/or training.

  • Preferred: Excellent communication (written and oral) skills.
  • Preferred: Proficiency in Windows, Word, and Excel.


Physical Requirements

Lifting Requirements - medium work or exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force consistently. Physical Requirements - stationary positioning, moving, operating, ascending/descending, communicating, observing, reaching, and repetitive motion. Use of equipment and tools necessary to perform essential job functions. Hazards and Atmospheric Conditions - exposure to fumes, dust, extreme temperatures, wet and/or humid, noise, vibration, mists or gases, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, and radiant energy hazards. OSHA Category I - duties performed routinely requires exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue.
