Under the guidance of the Manager, the Senior Specialist's basic objective of the position is to develop and implement training programs to promote high standards for employee performance in terms of technical proficiency, the environment, safety, productivity, customer focus and ethical behavior. This position contributes to the success of the Company by providing a motivated, well-trained workforce to meet the needs of customers and various stakeholders.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop new training programs to meet the needs of the Company and operating organizations. Ensure that all assigned courses have current learning objectives, course outlines, instructor guides, student manuals, training aids, tests, media and centralized document control. Embed Zero Harm, Human Performance Tools, Operational Excellence principles and all EH&S corporate initiatives into all lessons.
- Update and maintain eTrain and Learning Management System (LMS) records (i.e. creating classes, enrolling students, marking attendance, and providing completion credit.) Produce and utilize reports from TLC portal. Ensure team advisor duties are performed (i.e. run eTrain reports periodically, work with customers to ensure compliance, manage EH&S schedule, maintain training room calendar, and customer needs are met in a timely manner.) Ensure company is EH&S training compliant on all required training.
- Participate in self-development activities, training certifications (train the trainer) and benchmarking with other corporations, vendors, manufacturers and utilities along with participation in industry conferences to stay abreast of training best practices, emerging technologies and new educational techniques to identify and implement training enhancements.
- Evaluate student performance of those being trained, or tested for a position, title change, or advancement in title. Cross train in other training disciplines, for example customer experience and testing. Mentor new instructors and assist in their development process.
- Qualify in all EH&S Curriculum within the first 6 months. Maintain necessary certificates/licenses and training required to return to the field. Develop the ability to and routinely conduct effective training in multiple technical disciplines. Adapt to changing training demands (e.g., be available for ad-hoc, off-hour and/or off-site training).
- Coordinate with field personnel to ensure alignment of training with operations, including active participation in EH&S Training Effectiveness Committees (TECs) and field visits, including taking the lead in special projects, Operational Self Assessments (OSA), and L&I Safety Committee
- Maintain inventory of the materials required to conduct training. Conduct regular reviews of training curriculum and materials. Maintain housekeeping responsibility for assigned rooms and areas and ensure compliance requirements are met, as assigned (e.g., fire extinguisher inspections, battery inspections, TLCs Hazardous Energy Control Procedure, etc.).
- Conduct training in areas of expertise and pursue opportunities to provide training outside primary area(s) of responsibility. Stay informed of operating incidents, issues, procedures, lessons learned, etc. Communicate these to the training staff and students, where applicable.
- Perform field and records audits to ensure compliance with Company and regulatory compliance. Support operating organizations in emergency and contingency situations.
- Support the digital learning transformation program - be able to develop the skills to create Digital Learning Tools (DLT) and update content. Support and participate in the development of Digital Learning Tools, Innovation and Technology. Learn and develop the skills to create Digital Learning Tools (DLT).
- Assists with the company's hiring and progression testing program under the direction of the manager of O&R training. This will consist of various duties such as working with line organizations, labor and recruitment. Responsible for proctoring tests and development and change of tests. Ensure confidentiality and test administration is carried out in compliance with Company policies, guidelines and standards.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of relevant work experience. or
- Associate's Degree and 8 years of relevant work experience. or
- High School Diploma/GED and 10 years of relevant work experience.

Relevant Work Experience
- At least 4 years of relevant acceptable work experience in Electric and/or Gas or any operational experience, required.
- Work experience with Substations and Transmission Systems, preferred.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills, required.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm, flexibility, and the ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments while working under tight deadlines, required.
- Strong organizational, administrative, decision making and interpersonal skills with attention to detail and a solid teamwork orientation, required.

- Must be well organized, detail oriented and flexible with the ability to handle classroom instructional responsibilities and special assignments, required.
- Must have the ability to make presentations and facilitate group activities/training, required.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and ability to interact with all levels of management, Regulatory Agencies, union personnel and customers and the ability handle multiple tasks and assignments while working under tight deadlines, required.
- Hands-on experience with computer software programs, including Microsoft Office products, required.
- Gas Operator Qualification or Electric Qualification, preferred.

- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

- Must work in an environment that includes heat, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
- Must climb ladders and stairs
- Must enter underground manholes
- Must work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Must work with and in the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Maybe required and able to wear either a full- or half-face respirator without facial hair or other condition that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Must walk, stand, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach
- Must travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Must wear all necessary personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including; fire retardant clothing and safety harness
- Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
- Must work with equipment with manufacturer weight rating of 375 lbs
- Must be willing to travel within the O&R and/or CECONY service territory, as needed
