Overview

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Senior Transportation Analyst is responsible for executing analysis activities required for overall financial and economic management within the Transportation department. This position is the primary resource for developing and analyzing key information, which includes operating cost drivers, identification of key trends, financial planning, and interacting with service providers to ensure the department is providing optimal service at optimal cost.



Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Manage the day to day interaction with carriers, including but not limited to, negotiations on spot-rate truckloads and issue resolution with the Distribution Centers.
    • Monitor the inbound flow of EDI 214 data and work with carriers to promptly secure missing data sets.
    • Ensure freight claims are filed in a timely manner.
    • Proactively identify and promptly resolve issues related to late, damaged or short shipments and communicate outcomes with customer service, accounts receivable and sales teams.
  • Ownership of transportation related data in SAP as well as the TMS and WMS applications. In order to successfully complete this task, a thorough working knowledge of the TMS application, as well as the integration between SAP and the TMS, is required.
  • Support Customer Service, sales, and our plants and their transportation needs. BOL creation, tracking, rate quoting, trade show shipment setup, facilitate returns., etc.
  • Help maintain carrier relationships to maintain good service and control freight spend.
  • Responsible for the overall performance of the 3PL that audits & pays carrier freight invoices and the optimization of the freight payment process through the use of exception-based reporting.
    • Work with carriers and third party freight payment provider to promptly resolve invoice discrepancies.
    • Work with accounting and finance to ensure freight costs are accurately assigned to the material level and cost center on both inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Maintain a leadership role via project management, supervision, and decision-making responsibility for the department.
  • Responsible for the creation of the annual transportation budgets and subsequent quarterly updates.
  • Prepare monthly narratives on financial results and key metrics that are adequate for all levels of the management team. Identify and recommend key actions required, and any future implications.
  • Design, generate, and communicate financial tracking information and exception-based reporting including but not limited to, key performance indicators for Global Logistics - Transportation.
  • Develop action-based report tools that highlight issues, costs, opportunities and carrier performance needing further analysis.
  • Execution and analysis of the annual international freight, domestic truckload, and LTL carrier RFP's using available tools (the Transportation Procurement software).
  • Collect data through interviews, surveys, web search, database search or other methods.
  • Partner with various teams to identify key information gaps and plan to provide that information.
  • Synthesize and analyze information from various sources to identify trends, opportunities and risks.
  • Conduct "What If" scenarios surrounding key changes in the business conditions that drive costs and inefficiencies. Provide management summaries of what information means and reasons for fluctuations and implications on future performance.
  • Proactively identify and inform operations, finance, sales and IT of non-compliance issues noted from Customer Supplier Reliability Program and Routing Guides
  • Work proactively with customers to design and implement collaborative solutions that optimize the entire supply chain
  • Coordinate and establish business rules and processes for the flow of work between the Transportation department and other departments in the corporation.
  • Perform ad-hoc freight cost analysis for specific customers or vendors.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in business. Supply Chain or Transportation & Logistics concentration preferred.
  • 5+ years logistics
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Results oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong PC skills using - Oracle or other database tools i.e. Access or Excel database software
  • Working knowledge of SAP and TMS (Manhattan) experience preferred.
  • A thorough understanding of the integration between the ERP and TMS is required
  • Ability to quickly mine and interpret data.
  • Prepared to travel as required by the business.
