The Department of Human Performance/School of Medicine at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Research Lab Manager.

About the Opportunity

This position will manage the day-to-day Mitochondrial Core Facility activities.

What You'll Do



  • Manage day-to-day Mitochondrial Core Facility activities.
  • Scheduling and billing all client experiments through iLabs.
  • Running monthly expenditure reports though MS Excel.
  • Equipment and machinery maintenance.
  • Consultation with PIs, graduate students, postdocs and technicians regarding services, experimental design as well as data analysis and interpretation.
  • Refinement and optimization of recovery model to meet charge-back expectations which is consistent with appropriate charge backs as directed by Administration, as well as constant verification from supplier websites and other institutional/clinical systems.
  • Attend presentations/classes for financial and leadership enhancement.
  • Supervise and train graduate students, undergraduate students, rotating graduate students and experiential learning activities. This includes training of equipment use machinery, experimental design, fundamental background into metabolic and mitochondrial analyses, and data interpretation for grants or publication.
  • Develop WVU-wide formal on-site workshops focused on experimentation and data analysis for the broader WVU community.
  • Develop and perform mitochondrial, metabolic and bioenergetics analyses on tissue, cell and organismal model systems. This includes respiration and glycolytic analyses, electron transport chain function, molecular evaluations of mitochondrial constituents (protein, RNA, and DNA), preparation of human patient samples, small animal euthanasia and tissue dissection, and isolation of organelle fractions.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required in a biological sciences field (i.e. Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry) or related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the following:
    • Microsoft Word and Excel
    • Statistical Experience (Graphpad)
    • Managerial Work
    • Benchtop Work (Pipetting, Equipment)
    • Scheduling Experience (iLabs)
    • Lab Safety and Sole Training
    • Student Supervision
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic benchtop skills
  • Statistical analysis abilities
  • Basic word processing and excel ability.
