POSITION SCOPE

The DOT Inspection Technician will perform comprehensive Department of Transportation (DOT) inspections across multiple locations. This role requires extensive travel to ensure vehicles and equipment meet federal and state safety regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in diverse environments.

This position may include day or night shift work, extensive traveling, overtime, and weekend work.

PRIMARY DUTIES



  • Conduct thorough DOT inspections of commercial vehicles, including trucks, buses, and trailers, in compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Perform safety assessments, brake tests, emissions checks, and tire inspections
  • Document inspection findings accurately and complete all required reports and forms
  • Identify safety issues or violations and communicate findings to fleet managers and drivers
  • Coordinate travel schedules and routes efficiently to cover assigned regions
  • Maintain inspection equipment and ensure all tools are calibrated and in good working condition
  • Stay updated on DOT regulations, industry standards, and best practices
  • Provide guidance and training to drivers and fleet staff on safety procedures and compliance requirements
  • Travel extensively, often on short notice, to various locations including remote areas
  • Perform other duties as assigned



REQUIREMENTS



  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or automotive/mechanical certification preferred
  • CDL is preferred
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Prior experience with DOT inspections or vehicle maintenance is highly desirable
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of vehicle systems
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Flexibility to travel extensively, including overnight stays and varied schedules
  • Good communication skills and professionalism
  • Ability to lift, bend, and operate inspection equipment
  • Comfortable working in various weather conditions and environments
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical inspections
  • Self-directed and can work independently with minimal supervision
  • Extended out-of-town travel, night shift, and/or weekend work is required
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be able to pass a Government Background Check
