HJF is seeking a Research Associate II to preform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. May exercise technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies.

This position will be in support of the department of Pathology at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD as part of the Upadhyay laboratory. The Upadhyay lab studies novel biologics, targeted therapies using in vivo, in vitro, and bioinformatic approaches. They use multiple in vivo and invitro approaches for activating stress responsive signaling pathways in mammalian cells and murine models, high throughput and single cell sequencing strategies for defining the treatment for cancer including breast and pancreatic cancer

  • Performs complex data analysis and interpretation, verifies and corrects data entry.
  • Performs complex laboratory tests, determinations, and analyses involving multiple procedures and a variety of technical approaches in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Develops methods and procedures for experiments and investigations.
  • Writes and assists with experimental results for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Analyzes and prepares reagent and/or assay product documentation.
  • Organizes and procures needed reagents, performs experiments, analyzes data, and documents results.
  • Documents current or new procedures or protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing, and/or statistical estimation.
  • Mentors, reviews, and supervises junior laboratory staff in the planning, execution, and analysis of experiments.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.



Education and Experience



  • Master's Degree
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience required


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Experience in orthotopic pancreatic and breast cancer model, patient derived PDX and organoid model, subcutaneous, iv, ip, and including tail vein injection is required.
  • Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures (animal handling to support the in vitro and computation data)
  • Ability to meet deadlines of projects
  • Ability to follow complex instructions
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check


Physical Capabilities



  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods


Work Environment



  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.


Compensation



  • The annual salary/hourly pay range for this position is $57,650-$75,000. Actual salary/hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
