POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Database Administrator (Epic ODBA) will play a vital role as a team member managing, optimizing, and securing our large and diverse database environment, ensuring seamless operation and data integrity. You'll manage a large IRIS environment on RHEL, ensuring Epic systems run smoothly, securely, and efficiently. In addition, you'll support MS SQL (including Cogito) and help expand into cloud and open-source platforms such as PostgreSQL and MySQL.


Responsibilities

  • Perform daily Epic ODBA operations: performance monitoring, tuning, patching, incident response, and security.
  • Manage Epic major release cycles - from planning through go-live.
  • Use Epic tools like Red Alert, System Pulse, Kuiper, and Instaserver to keep databases healthy.
  • Help support our MS SQL environment and Cogito database ecosystem.
  • Expand skills into cloud, open-source databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL), and Oracle.
  • Build proactive monitoring and alerting solutions to prevent downtime.
  • Document best practices and mentor IT staff.
  • Collaborate across IT, application, and analytics teams to align database performance with organizational goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. (Additional years of experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
  • 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with expertise as an Epic ODBA and experience in MS SQL
  • Hands-on Epic ODBA experience in IRIS on Linux (RHEL preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of Epic monitoring and admin tools (Red Alert, System Pulse, Kuiper, Instaserver).
  • Experience with MS SQL administration, including Cogito a plus.
  • Familiarity with cloud databases, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and/or Oracle a plus.
  • Strong skills in backup/recovery, performance tuning, and database security.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Epic ODBA certification (preferred, or ability to obtain within 12 months).
