The Broward County Board of County Commissioners, Transportation Department is seeking qualified candidates for Transit Director of Safety & Security.
General Description
Maintains a safe and secure environment for employees, customers, and the public through the development, oversight, and direction of safety and security policies, procedures, and programming.
Works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in safety systems management, risk management, security management, crisis management, business administration, public administration, or a field of study related to the area of assignment.
(One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)
Requires four (4) years of high-level experience related to the area of assignment, including four (4) years of supervisory experience.
Special Certifications & Licenses Required
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License for duration of appointment.
Preferences
Master's Degree in Criminal Justice, Business, Public Administration, Security Studies, Emergency Management or field of study related to the area of assignment.
Board Certification ASIS Protection Professional (CPP) Certification

Board Certification ASIS Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) Certification

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Assists in overseeing and maintaining a system for ongoing risk assessment, ensuring that programs and procedures are continuously updated to reflect the latest best practices, emerging threats, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Advises and coordinates with all BCT sections to ensure safety and security measures are accessible and employees are trained.
Assists in ensuring compliance with all transit agency requirements, local, state, federal laws, and environmental protocols.
Under the direction of the Chief Safety and Security Officer (CSSO), assures regular unannounced inspections are performed to audit safety and security compliance.
Provides feedback and recommendations to assigned leadership. Keeps inspection records.
Provides training to all BCT staff related to safety and security as requested by the CSSO.
Responds to employee concerns related to safety and security. Responds to BCT customer concerns and incidents related to safety and security performing and/or managing investigations and casual analysis of the incidents.
Establishes and maintains effective communication, liaison, and cooperative relationships with local, state, and federal governmental agencies, safety committees, labor unions, and transit associations.
Under the direction of the CSSO, participates and assists in the management of the annual budget for the Safety and Security Division.
Supervises staff and ensures coaching and performance management is provided for development, as directed by the CSSO.
Procures safety and security equipment/supplies as requested by the CSSO.
Assists the CSSO in assessing contracts for accuracy and needs of BCT. Ensures contract renewals are timely.
Assists in the recruitment process for vacant positions.
Works to ensure that a culture of safety is promoted throughout the organization and maintaining a healthy Safety Management System (SMS).
Under the direction of the CSSO, develops leading KPI's for continuous improvement with safety and security, keeps accurate records, provides analysis of trends and recommendations.
Position will act as the designee of the CSSO for the Collision Review Team and ensure follow-up actions are handled.
Performs related work as assigned.
