JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State Brandywine Campus Library (in Media, PA - outside of Philadelphia) is seeking a Part-Time Library Support Staff position for 20 hours per week. This is not a federal work study position.

The selected candidate will be responsible for opening or closing the library and work four weekdays. We are looking for the following days/times for availability: Monday 1:30pm-6:30pm, Thursday 8:30am-1:30pm, and Wednesday/Friday any time between 8:30am-5:00pm.

Duties Include

  • Assist employees, students, and the community in the use of the library, including library equipment.

  • Perform basic circulation functions such as registering borrowers, charging and discharging library materials, locating library materials online, and answering questions.

  • Assist with receiving items in transit from other libraries and ship items to other campuses.

  • Answer basic questions at the service desk.

  • Provide basic assistance with technology and computing.

  • Reserve group study rooms for students and employees.

  • Assist with other projects, duties, and tasks as assigned.

The candidate should possess good computer skills, communication skills (written and verbal), and the ability to work independently. Candidates must possess a commitment to working with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, have a strong commitment to diversity, equity, respect, and inclusion, and be supportive of a collaborative work environment. Successful applicants must be dependable, flexible, and dedicated to providing excellent customer service to library visitors. Previous library or public service experience is preferred.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR).
