Position Summary

The Research Scientist will support and lead research projects for a faculty member in the Department of Population Science and Community Outreach in the Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Ohio State University. The position focuses on cancer health services research, including both qualitative and quantitative studies using large datasets such as EHRs, claims, and national surveys. The Research Scientist will contribute to grant development, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and mentoring of junior team members.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development, execution, and evaluation of cancer health services research projects.

  • Conduct analyses using real-world data, including EHRs, claims data, and audit log files, applying advanced statistical methods.

  • Utilize supercomputing platforms or high-performance computing environments for large-scale data analysis.

  • Design and analyze survey research; contribute to projects using datasets such as HINTS and the AHA Annual Survey.

  • Lead and support qualitative data collection and analysis (e.g., semi-structured interviews, focus groups).

  • Conduct scoping and systematic literature reviews to inform program and study design.

  • Contribute to grant applications, including aims development, methodological sections, and supporting documents.

  • Mentor students and junior analysts on research methods, data analysis, and dissemination.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including clinicians, administrators, and academic partners.

  • Assist with regulatory documents and IRB protocols, ensuring compliance with institutional and federal requirements.

  • Present research findings in manuscripts, reports, and national conferences.

Job Requirements

Doctoral degree required. Demonstrated ability to be a competent and productive researcher i.e. incumbent will have authored several publications of considerable interest and value to the field as evidenced by favorable reviews, by citation in the work of others, by presentations of papers to professional societies, and/or will have contributed inventions, new designs, or techniques which are of material significance in the solution of important applied problems.
