ScopeofPosition TheOncology ClinicalNurseSpecialist (CNS)has aunique Advanced Practice Nursing(APN)rolethat integrates care across the *cancer continuum through three spheres of influence:patient, nurse and system. Theprimary goalinthese interrelated spheres istoachieve continuousimprovementofpatient outcomes through quality nursing care.(APRN Joint Dialogue Group Report, (July 7, 2008). The CNS: 1)provides guidance and direction to the health care team inachieving positive patient care outcomes, 2)designs, implementsandevaluates patient-specificandpopulation-basedprograms ofcare, and 3) serves as aresearcher, clinical expert, leader, consultant, role model/mentor,staff resource and educator in advancing the practice of nursing science. The CNS facilitates translating research into evidence-based practice that enhances patient outcomes ina fiscally responsible manner. TheCNS role serves the unit, department, institution and community *CancerContinuumalsoincludescare ofthebenignhematologypatient population. PositionSummary The CNS is anadvanced practice nurse who is an expert inevidence-basednursing practice within a specialty area. TheCNS integrates research and knowledge of disease and current treatments into the assessment, diagnosis, andhealthcaregoals forpatientsandpopulations.TheCNSprovides leadership in the implementation of nursing practice standards. MinimumQualifications Graduate ofanaccredited school ofregistered nursing withcurrent licensure asaRNamp; APRN-CNS inthe State of Ohio.Certification asCNS preferred. Master's Degree innursing required, clinical specialty major preferred.Significant clinical nursing experience relevant toassigned unit(s)/department specialty as defined in the scope of service.Previous CNS experience preferred. |
