Position Title: Youth Peer Advocate
Department: Adolescent Skills Center
Reports to: Program Director
Location: Hybrid-Fixed
Schedule: Part-time, Office hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm
Hourly Pay: $26.00 - $30.00*
*New hires are typically brought into the organization between the minimum to midpoint of the salary range posted depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.

Position Overview:
The Peer Youth Advocate is responsible for engaging program enrolled youth and their families in the identification of needs and assisting in the pursuit of academic, mental health and recreational goals. This includes but is not limited to the collaboration with other organizations, public education about youth mental health issues, assisting in the organization of social, recreational and education activities, representing the interest of youth in public forums and advisory groups, and data entry.
Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Serves as a role model for Adolescent Skills Center program participants
  • Provides peer support to ASC enrolled youth
  • Facilitates support groups as needed
  • Assists in tutoring and education classes as needed
  • Appropriately and effectively interacts with agency personnel
  • Attends weekly supervision and case conferences meetings
  • Attends meetings, trainings, and seminars as required
  • Demonstrates willingness to work flexible hours on occasion
  • Additional duties as assigned

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills
  • Excellent time management
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, youth, families, service providers, employers, and others
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under stress
  • Ability to respond to telephones and other auditory stimulation
  • Ability to evaluate/interpret information and make independent judgment/decisions


Required Qualifications:


  • Must be a young adult who has experienced mental health challenges and who has received mental health

    services
  • Knowledge of other child and adolescent service systems preferred
  • Must be comfortable discussing personal history of mental health challenges with ASC enrolled youth
  • High school degree or GED required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Bilingual and bicultural candidates are encouraged to apply
  • Candidates possessing exceptional skill but not all of the qualifications are also encouraged to apply


Physical Requirements:


  • Mostly sedentary work; using standard office equipment including: a computer, keyboard, and telephone
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, program participants, service providers and other stakeholders
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under stress
  • Ability to respond to telephones and other auditory stimulation
  • Ability to evaluate/interpret information and make independent judgment/decisions
