Storeroom - Toolroom Supervisor
Purpose:
Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a Storeroom-Toolroom Supervisor to support shipyard operations in Norfolk, VA.
Job Description:
- Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Storeroom/Toolroom. Must work to ensure the Storeroom/Toolroom meets the needs of the Production workforce and achieves the long-term goals of the Procurement department.
- Oversee and manage workforce. Develop and retain a capable, versatile, and productive force of storeroom/toolroom attendants. Provide training, instruction, supervision, and opportunities for growth. Maximize employee skills and ability.
- Develop and maintain working schedules that meet the demands of Production, maximize productivity during work hours, and limit employee burnout.
- Partner with Production leadership to understand and adapt to changing needs of the workforce. Foster a culture of flexibility in the department.
- Monitor, promote, and encourage proper attendance. Ensure employees understand the attendance policy and consequences of absenteeism; communicate and track unexcused absences.
- Develop and instill motivational and disciplinary techniques. Build a team culture; provide positive reinforcement. Present clear expectations and reinforce standards of performance and personal behavior.
- Instill and develop the Procurement Department values of Work Ethic, Initiative, and Attitude.
- Implement and oversee all aspects of the tool management program. Includes accurate record keeping of tools and their condition, transfer of calibrated equipment to and from offsite calibration, tool repair, tool replacement, etc.
- Maintain an inventory of consumable material in the storeroom; requisition, receive, reconcile, and store materials in an efficient manner.
- Ensure tools and materials are issued to the workforce according to all company policies.
- Perform regular cycle counts of consumable inventory and tools.
- Work closely with the Purchasing Department to expedite back ordered material.
- Develop organization methods and maintain consistent organization of all of work areas in the Storeroom/Toolroom. Includes housekeeping; maintain all work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
- Maintain a safe working environment. Enforce all safety regulations and ensure department use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must have at least four (4) years' experience working in a warehouse supervisory or similar position.
- Must have previous manufacturing shipping and receiving experience.
- Must be able to work nights and weekends.
- Must be able to work effectively with others.
- Must be able to comprehend and follow instructions.
- Must have regular, reliable attendance.
Travel Requirements:
- Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs.
- Must be physically agile to perform tasks in naval ships. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes.
- May ride ships at sea for extended periods
- Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
- Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
- Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts.
- While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl.
- Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation
- Frequent use of respirator.
- Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.
