DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, your primary role will involve overseeing the activities of inmates while ensuring that security protocols are strictly adhered to. You will be tasked with maintaining a safe working environment, particularly in relation to boiler operations, which are crucial for generating medium pressure steam. This steam is essential for providing heat and hot water to meet the various institutional requirements. Your responsibilities will include monitoring the operational procedures to ensure compliance with safety standards, as well as guiding inmates in their work tasks to promote both efficiency and security within the facility.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a shift differential of $1.25 per hour.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
