Job Description:

Providing for loved ones, planning rewarding retirements, saving enough for whatever lies ahead - our policyholders count on us to be there when it matters most. It's a big ask, but it's one that we have the power to deliver when we work together. We collaborate and innovate - pushing one another to transform not just Pacific Life, but the entire industry for the better. Why? Because it's the right thing to do. Pacific Life is more than a job, it's a career with purpose. It's a career where you have the support, balance, and resources to make a positive impact on the future - including your own.

We are actively seeking a talented .NET developer with heavy hands-on coding experience in C# and Visual Studio to join our Illustrations Platform Team within our Consumer Markets Division (CMD), on-site at our state-of-the-art Newport Beach headquarters.

In this role you will join an established technical team responsible for ongoing development and maintenance of a large, mission-critical software stack that supports a multi-billion-dollar line of business. Written primarily with C#, VB.NET, and SQL Server, this software suite has been built and maintained in-house for over 25 years with a wide range of new and old .NET Web and WinForms technologies.

The right candidate for this role could be a senior developer with deep experience in older .NET Framework technologies, a mid-level developer fluent with newer .NET Core versions, or a mix of both. What matters is that you are a team-oriented problem-solver and a hands-on coder with excellent communication skills who will drill into our codebase, embrace our team and technical cultures, and commit to delivering highly performant and scalable .NET systems that will last for years into the future. In return, you will enjoy a career opportunity with excellent work/life balance at a premier, industry-leading Fortune 500 company. If this appeals to you, we should talk.

Here's a little more about who we are, what we do, and what we're looking for.

The IT-Illustrations Platform Team is the technical backbone of CMD's Illustrations systems. We provide the foundational infrastructure, tools, services, and shared components that enable product teams to deliver high-quality software faster and more reliably. Our work involves highly-complex software design and coding, multiple system integrations, continuous deployments, performance monitoring, internal tooling, and codebase architecture.

As a Developer on the Illustrations Platform Team, you will play a key role in supporting both development and operational aspects of our illustration systems. You will partner closely with other developers and analysts across multiple teams to deliver scalable solutions, streamline development workflows, and ensure application stability. Your work will require not only technical excellence, but also a strong systems mindset and an interest in optimizing how teams build and run software.

How you'll help move us forward:

  • Execute on Architectural Designs: Translate system designs and architectural direction into working, maintainable code. Collaborate closely with the platform architect to ensure alignment with long-term system goals.

  • Develop Core Platform Components: Design and implement shared libraries, APIs, services, front-end components, and system enhancements used by teams across the illustration platform. This includes building internal tools and user interfaces using modern web technologies.

  • Take ownership: Own key components within the platform, ensuring they are performant, scalable, reliable, and maintainable.

  • Drive Technical Excellence: Participate in code reviews, contribute to architectural discussions, and recommend improvements in scalability, performance, and maintainability.

  • Improve Developer Productivity: Build and support tools and processes that improve local development and code quality enforcement.

  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work with product teams to understand and address platform needs, and support seamless integration of new functionality.

The Experience You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 5 to 10+ years of experience designing and coding applications with Visual Studio, C# and any combination of related technologies, such as C++, VB.NET, JavaScript, JQuery, CSS, HTML, WebForms, MVC, SPAs, Web Services, Web APIs, WinForms, Win32 API C++, Razor, Blazor or related technologies.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex system-level issues, support production systems, and work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Solid understanding of software architecture and system design principles, with the ability to interpret and execute on architectural direction to produce clean, scalable, and maintainable code.

  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the initiative to identify and implement improvements.

  • A team-first attitude, with strong communication skills, a growth mindset, and a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to follow and participate in detailed conversations about complex technical and business issues, with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • The ability to establish lasting professional credibility with teammates and co-workers at every level of the organization.

  • A passion for building software that works, and software that lasts.

You can be who you are.
