Job Description: Emergency Department Patient Access Representative We are seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Patient Access Representative to join our Emergency Department (ED) team. This role is essential in ensuring a smooth and compassionate experience for patients during their hospital visit. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates exceptional interpersonal skills, and is comfortable working on their feet in an emergency room setting.
Key Responsibilities * Accurately perform patient registration and insurance verification, ensuring collection of all required data elements for proper identification and billing. * Update and maintain patient demographic information in the ADT system in accordance with departmental policies. * Interpret physician orders to determine appropriate testing or admission criteria. * Coordinate patient admissions and bed assignments to support timely and efficient patient placement. * Identify out-of-network or non-participating insurance plans and communicate options to patients and providers, which may include rescheduling or canceling appointments. * Obtain and validate insurance information using electronic medical records, transfer documentation, or eligibility tools. * Provide courteous and accurate information to patients, families, visitors, and staff, including wayfinding assistance throughout the hospital. * Prepare and scan documents into the electronic patient record system. * Explain forms and processes to patients prior to obtaining signatures, ensuring all documentation is properly signed and witnessed. * Assemble and disassemble patient charts and departmental documents per policy. * Handle copying and faxing of documents to ancillary departments or physician offices. * Maintain inventory of forms and supplies to ensure operational readiness. * Assist with resolving patient account balances and billing inquiries. *Shift:* Seeking overnights and mid shift occasionally, rotating weekends. Qualifications & Skills * Exceptional customer service and communication skills. * Ability to work collaboratively with nurses, physicians, and other hospital staff. * Comfortable standing and walking for extended periods (10-12 hours per shift). * Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. * Prior experience in healthcare, registration, or insurance verification is a plus but not required.
