Job Summary:

The Technician Career Development Assessor is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the evaluation processes that determine technician readiness for career advancement. This role focuses on developing skill-based assessments, administering competency evaluations, and ensuring a fair, structured, and consistent advancement framework. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with a talent for performance measurement and a commitment to technician growth and success.


Responsibilities:


Assessment Development & Oversight



  • Design and implement multi-level technician assessments, including practical, written, and simulation-based evaluations.
  • Ensure assessments align with role-specific technical competencies.
  • Maintain a robust assessment library for various technician levels and specializations



Evaluation & Proctoring



  • Serve as the lead proctor and evaluator during technician advancement assessments.
  • Establish and maintain standardized scoring rubrics and evaluation benchmarks.
  • Ensure objectivity, consistency, and transparency in all evaluation processes.



Technician Development Pathways



  • Collaborate with training and operations leaders to define clear technician career pathways and advancement criteria.
  • Provide input on technician training needs based on observed skills gaps during evaluations.
  • Assist in aligning assessment outcomes with performance improvement plans and individual development goals.



Program Quality & Continuous Improvement



  • Monitor assessment of outcomes and trends to evaluate effectiveness and fairness.
  • Gather feedback from technicians and supervisors to refine assessment tools and processes.
  • Leverage assessment data to recommend training enhancements or new certification tracks.



Cross-Functional Support



  • Partner with technical training & development manager and technical trainers, to ensure assessments reflect up-to-date equipment, procedures, and technologies.
  • Support onboarding evaluations for new hires to place them appropriately within the technician career structure.

Requirements
Qualifications:


Required:



  • 5+ years of experience in technician training, skill evaluation, or technical development in skilled trades or 10+ years of technical experience.
  • Proficient in test development, rubric design, and performance-based evaluation methods.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems and the latest technical schematics.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, observational, and documentation skills.



Preferred:



  • Experience in heavy equipment, field service, energy, or manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with technician certification frameworks (e.g., CAT levels, ASE certifications).
  • Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS) and assessment analytics.

Working Conditions:
Mix of office, classroom, and hands-on field/shop environments.
Up to 60% travel to field or branch locations for onsite assessments.
