Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Associate Director, recruit and provide undergraduate admissions advising for prospective, admitted and current UC Davis students. Interpret and implement policies from the UC Regents, UC Academic Senate Board of Admissions and Relations with Schools, UC Office of the President, UC Davis Academic Senate Committee on Admissions and Enrollment, and UC Davis Undergraduate Admissions. Provide consultation and input to leadership on UC Davis pre-collegiate educational programs, admissions marketing and recruitment, publications, policies and practices. Review freshman and transfer applications annually, rendering admission decisions. Explain and clarify admission and selection policies and processes to prospective students, families, counselors and higher education administrators. Guide admitted students, families, and counselors with admissions and course evaluation issues. Participate and enhance recruitment and yield programs targeted at prospective students. Provide outreach and presentations to diverse student populations at high schools, colleges and community-based agencies and organizations. Represent and speak on behalf of UC Davis and the University on campus at professional meetings and conferences of educators and colleagues. Admit undergraduate students to the University, including admission by exception; establish and modify admission contracts; sustain and rescind admissions offers; exercise professional judgement in the holistic review of application for selective admissions; counsel and consult prospective, provisionally admitted, denied, reinstated, and matriculated students; provide program coordination of academic department admission reviews, perform credit adjustments for continuing students, deferred student enrollment, and other interoffice and student programs; implement and administer admission and evaluation policy. Recruit, train and supervise Welcome Center Call Center staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree and/or extensive experience in the field of higher education.
  • Experience with comprehensive knowledge of recruitment strategies, academic programs, including curricula, admission requirements, and financial aid programs at college/universities and specifically at UC, and/or specific colleges and schools.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate University policies and admission procedures to a diverse population of prospective students, admitted students and the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with schools, universities, community organizations and campus partners.
  • Professional knowledge and judgment to interpret and to apply complex admission guidelines to render admission decisions across a wide range of unique academic and life circumstances.
  • Advising and planning skills to develop educational plans for potential applicants and alternative educational plans for applicants and matriculants with university academic deficiencies.
  • Ability to develop recruitment programs and design effective materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience speaking another language, preferably Spanish.
  • Familiarity with academic and social problems confronting students from diverse backgrounds in high school and college settings.
  • Interpersonal communication skills to collaborate, negotiate, and interact with individuals and groups of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Initiative, decision making and judgment skill to recommend and act under general direction and within limits of broadly defined objectives and priorities.
  • Familiarity with campus policies, procedures, and practices in the areas of student pre-collegiate programs.

Department Overview

Undergraduate Admissions (UA) provides leadership, planning, management, and implementation of undergraduate admissions, recruitment and outreach services. UA participates in development of campus enrollment goals and ensures that the goals are met through implementation of UC and UC Davis Faculty policy for selective admissions, and through carrying out of internal and campus-wide enrollment management initiatives. UA also establishes initial undergraduate student profile data for the UC Davis student records database and determines for each entering undergraduate their academic credit toward a baccalaureate degree.

Work Environment

  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.   • This position is location on campus at the Walter A. Robinson Welcome Center.
