Description

The Semel Institute is seeking to hire a full time Staff Research Associate I to work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and serve as a Research Technician. This position is responsible for assisting with basic neuroscience research using mice.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • mouse stereotaxic surgery, behavior experiments, optogenetics, calcium imaging
  • mouse colony management, histology and microscopy
  • attending weekly research meeting
  • performing other research-related duties as required.
Pay Range: $26.52 - $31.63 hourly.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with other lab members in the context of team-based research projects.
  • Skill in hands-on experimental techniques, basic troubleshooting and ability to follow detailed research protocols.
  • Proficiency in data management and organization of technical information.
Preferred qualifications:
  • B.S. preferred
  • At least one year of prior neuroscience, laboratory experience preferred.
  • Experience working with mice is strongly preferred.
  • Strong computer skills preferred, knowledge of Matlab programming is a plus.
  • Prior experience with mouse behavior combined with neural recording/manipulation is preferred.
  • Prior experience with stereotaxic surgery is a plus.
