Flow Cytometry Specialist - Southern Cancer Center (Daphne, AL)

Position Summary:
Southern Cancer Center is seeking a Flow Cytometry Specialist to join our laboratory team in Daphne, Alabama. This role is responsible for accurately processing and evaluating specimens-including blood, bone marrow, tissue, and fluids-for immunophenotyping. The specialist will independently perform all steps of specimen analysis, maintain instrumentation, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.


Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform specimen handling, processing, and analysis with minimal supervision.
  • Independently manage in-house and send-out testing workflows.
  • Operate and maintain flow cytometry instruments; perform routine maintenance and calibrations.
  • Document quality control activities, reagent lot numbers, and corrective actions.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and prepare slides for staining or additional testing.
  • Identify and resolve issues affecting test performance; escalate when necessary.
  • Maintain documentation per Quality Assessment Program standards.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, lab staff, and supervisors.
  • Manage inventory and prepare reagents for testing.
  • Ensure timely charting of patient results and interface accuracy.
  • Contribute to the development of new instruments and procedures.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills:

  • Adherence to OSHA, CLIA 88, CAP/COLA, and universal precaution protocols.
  • Proper disposal of hazardous materials and maintenance of a clean work environment.
  • Confidentiality in handling patient and staff information.
  • Proficiency in Lab Information Systems, EMR, and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience with regulatory inspections (CAP, CLIA, COLA).
  • Strong judgment, adaptability, and commitment to quality and performance.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related Laboratory Science (or equivalent experience).
  • ASCP or equivalent certification preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience in flow cytometry analysis.
  • State license (if required).

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

  • Full range of body motion; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Standing/sitting for extended periods; lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Corrected vision, color perception, and hearing required.
  • Work performed in an office/lab setting with potential exposure to infectious specimens.
  • Interaction with staff, physicians, auditors, and occasional travel.
