Job Summary:

This position is oriented towards an inquisitive and enthusiastic individual to join the Ng Laboratory in a federally funded position. We focus on the investigation of hemostasis, thrombosis, and vascular biology. They will be responsible for performing a broad array of common laboratory assays such as western blots, qPCR analysis, and ELISA assays. The position is currently 100% time.

The position offers a unique opportunity to work with leading investigators in the field of hemostasis and thrombosis research, in a multidisciplinary research environment that features a robust research infrastructure in basic, translational, and clinical research, including laboratory professionals and trainees working in coagulation, database management and bio-statistical support, clinical research associates and coordinators, clinical and research nurses, and support personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions, including project planning.

  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects

  • Perform experiments, tabulate, and analyze research.

  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting, and communicating results.

  • Perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical test process and evaluate the results produced.

  • Assist in the review and implementation of lab support policies, practices, and programs to meet organizational, operational, and management needs.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.

    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis and may be considered as relevant experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Condition of Employment:

  • This position requires 100% effort (full-time position), Monday through Friday.

  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.

  • Experience with RNA/DNA isolation techniques

  • Experience with qRT-PCR techniques

  • Experience with reporter gene assays

  • Experience with sterile techniques of bacterial/cellular culture

  • Experience with growth curve determination assays

  • Western blotting experience

  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab (e.g., cell culture, rodent models, molecular biology techniques).

  • Mammalian cell culture experience, including, but not limited to: expansion of cell lines, cryopreservation, and routine mycoplasma testing.

  • Microscopy experience, specifically immunofluorescence and quantification.

  • Experience with animal tissues.

  • Previous full-time employment or experience in an academic research lab.

  • Experience with endothelial or other vascular biology-related cell culture models.

  • Extensive experience of iPSC or CRISPR/Cas9 techniques, such as (but not limited to): independent creation of CRISPR/Cas9 primers, validation of CRISPR/Cas9 targeting, expertise in iPSC culture maintenance and directed differentiation (including evidence of more than one iPSC cell line creation).

  • Bioinformatic analysis/computer coding experience.

  • Experience and/or willingness to work with animal models.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques, including safety procedures and techniques

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution

  • Outstanding customer service skills

  • Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office programs and can conduct basic statistical analysis

  • Broad-based knowledge and experience with multiple basic laboratory techniques and technologies, from biochemistry to immunology to cell and molecular biology.

  • Recent experience in applied molecular and cell biology techniques, including protein purifications, tissue culture, DNA isolation, PCR, flow cytometry, proteomics, and genomics, is also desirable.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, i.e., capable of maintaining several laboratory projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to independently organize and maintain laboratory stocks, supplies, and ordering.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and revise laboratory protocols.

  • Ability to function autonomously but exercise sound judgment in seeking appropriate supervision.

  • Skilled in communicating effectively and facilitating group processes.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with collaborators, sponsors, researchers, and other team members.

  • Ability to effectively teach and mentor new members of the lab regarding protocols, standard operating procedures, and laboratory rules.

  • Comply with all standard operating procedures and quality control systems per the University of Colorado policy.

  • Comply with any laboratory duties assigned by the PI.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The hiring range for this position has been established as $46,274 to $58,861.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
