THE POSITION

You will work within the schools as a professional mental health liaison and will have the summers off as this ten-month position follows the school year calendar.

In this role, you will serve as an advocate for school age children, monitor the delivery of services, link individuals with services that will enhance their education, develop social supports, encourage self-determination and build a rapport with the students, staff, service providers and families. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Student Assistance Programs (SAP) and Community Liaison plays a critical role in coordinating mental health and developmental support services across multiple school districts and community partners. This position is responsible for planning and implementing SAP, serving as a mental health liaison, supporting families in accessing services, leading suicide prevention efforts, and representing BHDPEI in public outreach and educational initiatives. The role also includes responsibilities under the Office of Developmental Programs (ODP), supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD/A) and their families throughout the eligibility and service planning process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops and adapts SAP programs across four school districts in compliance with state guidelines
  • Serves as liaison between schools, families, mental health providers, and community resources
  • Conducts SAP pre-assessments and supports service coordination
  • Leads school-based prevention programs and participates in multi-agency initiatives
  • Coordinates educational events and evaluates training effectiveness
  • Facilitates monthly meetings and events for suicide prevention initiatives (NSPI)
  • Represents BHDPEI at community events and collaborates with local agencies
  • Acts as point person for the ODP Regional Collaborative on Supporting Families
  • Guides families through ODP eligibility determination and service enrollment
  • Interprets regulations, creates local procedures, and supports community understanding of the ODP system
  • Maintains documentation for quality management and reporting

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Start time and hours depend on school schedule.
  • Employee may have overnight travel or out of county travel for meetings or training. May have irregular hours, including evenings or weekends.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a County Caseworker 2; or
  • A bachelor's degree in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and three years of professional social casework experience in a public or private social services agency; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
