Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on preventing workplace accidents and promotes health and safety awareness and education to individuals within the organization. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Associate Safety related duties: Prevents workplace accidents and promotes health and safety awareness and education for employees. A professional individual contributor role that may direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programs. The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education. An experienced level role that applies practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Works independently with general supervision, problems faced are difficult but typically not complex, and may influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies and practices.

Job Overview

This position will ensure compliance with, make recommendations to, and train employees in workplace prevention policies & procedures. Review and investigate incidents, provide security assistance, and track and analyze trends. Collaborate with internal teams and external resources to increase effectiveness of workplace violence prevention programs.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Certified AVADE Home Health Instructor within 90 days of hire.

3. IAHSS Workplace Violence Prevention Certification within one year of hire.

4. Two (2) years of experience in Workplace Violence Prevention or Security.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or related field.

2. Certified AVADE Home Health Instructor.

3. IAHSS Workplace Violence Prevention Certification.

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1. Review and maintain workplace violence prevention policies & procedures.

2. Assess new case locations for safety and security concerns and make recommendations on measures and steps to take to ensure safety of staff.

3. Research and recommend strategies for patient & staff safety based on industry best practices.

4. Accompany staff and/or coordinate security escort during home visits.

5. Collaborate regularly with local law enforcement to review local crime, high risk areas, safety practices, and establish a channel of communication to obtain advanced notice of any safety concerns in our service areas.

6. Review workplace violence incident reports via internal reporting system.

7. Follow up with staff and team leads following workplace violence event to gather information, debrief the management team on findings and make recommendations for next steps and process improvement.

8. Provide safety standby presence for HR conversations/terminations.

9. Instruct staff in AVADE and other safety trainings.

10. Maintain policy and processes associated with staff personal safety alarms.

11. Chair Workplace Violence Prevention committee at local entity.

12. Collaborate with all system entities regarding workplace violence prevention.

13. Review and implement violent FYI flags within EPIC for high-risk patients.

14. Follow up with patients/visitors on violations of Tufts Medicine Code of Conduct.

15. Participate in MHA Workplace Safety & Violence Prevention workgroup.

16. Provide representation during IAHSS Boston Chapter workgroup meetings.

Physical Requirements:

1. Professional office environment with typical office requirements such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.

2. Frequently required to speak, hear, communicate, and exchange information.

3. Available to respond to any emergency or need to commence an investigation after normal working hours, carry a pager or other notification devices.

4. Able to see and read computers displays, read fine print, and/or normal type size print and distinguish letters, numbers and symbols.

5. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

6. Physically able to perform physical activities such as response to daily operations situations and emergency/disaster situations.

Skills & Abilities:

1. Knowledge of current workplace violence prevention trends and technology.

2. Good analytical skills.

3. Good communication skills.

4. Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations pertaining to the workplace violence prevention.

5. Good training and presentation skills.
