Engineering Systems Inc. (ESi) is seeking a Senior Consultant with expertise in civil and structural engineering. This position is responsible for performing Civil and Structural Engineering tasks and managing consulting projects. Tasks include performing consulting and damage investigations, engineering analysis and engineering calculations; also presents findings by preparing technical reports for clients, repair drawings, and by providing testimony and exhibits

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Forensic Investigations:

  • This position willdeal with construction defect cases, property liability and compliance cases, and cases involving post damage assessments and scope of repairs.Additionally,expectto perform analysis on temporary support systems for repair and construction, analysis and design of structure and foundations.
  • The consultant will also conduct site inspections and perform analysis with respect to damage due to storms or natural disasters.
  • Experience preparing reports in support of dispute resolution is a plus.
  • May be expected to testify as an expert witness or mayassistin preparing another expert to testify.
  • Perform field inspections of residential, commercial, marine, transportation and industrial structures or equipment, etc. todeterminecause and origin of reported or suspected damages as well as to prepare condition assessments and, when required, to develop repair designs.
  • Prepare and review technical, project-related reports from others for clients asrequired,conferswith project personnel toprovidetechnical advice and to resolve problems.

Project & Practice Management:

  • Lead or contribute to multidisciplinary teams; manage timelines, budgets, and client expectations.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure projects progress on schedule and within prescribed budgets.
  • Adhere to and contribute toESi'sQA/QC standards by reviewing peers' work.
  • Perform ongoing continuing education, including preparing technical presentations, white papers, and/or peer-reviewed papers relevant to their areas of practice.
  • Mentor junior consultants to support their professional development.
  • Assistin other Civil Engineering projects run in the local office.
  • Plan, manage, and coordinate his/her/theirown work along with project activities with ESi consultants and others to ensure that goals andobjectivesof projects areaccomplishedwithin prescribedtime frameand at funding levels acceptable to the client. Perform these duties and taskspersonally ormay assemble the work that integrates tasks performed by others including other Consultants, Staff Engineers, technologists, and others.
  • Confer with project staff to plan and complete project work plans and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of tasks.
  • Coordinate with the project lead, sometimesdirectsandcoordinatesactivities of project personnel to ensure projects progress on schedule and within prescribed budgets. At other times, provide engineering services for tasks assigned by the project lead.

Client Development & Collaboration:

  • Develop local clients and projects in these areas, working primarily in concert with other ESi civil engineering resources in other ESi offices.
  • Communicate with the client or potential client andpreparesorreviewsproject proposals or plans todeterminethe required tasks, schedule, budget, and procedures foraccomplishingproject goals.
  • Make recommendations to clients or potential clients and to the Practice Director to accept or decline potential new projects based on all variables. During the project, whenappropriate,recommend increases or decreases in the scope of the ESi work.
  • Conduct well-developed and well-prepared client presentations and technical conference presentations.
  • Perform marketing and business development activities to identify potential clients and strategies to build client base. Occasionally responsible for representing ESi and its consultants to potential clients and at conferences and meetings. Business development activities may include making presentations and introductions in order to obtain additional clients and projects, and/ expand ESi's business.

Education Requirements:

  • Master's degree in civil engineering degree from ABET accredited educational institution required
  • PE License required

Experience Requirements:

  • 10+years' experience in civil and structural engineering
  • Experience in a consulting environment preferred
  • Experience and familiarity in inspection and engineering of residential and/or commercial facilities
  • Structural inspection and condition assessment experience preferred

Computer Skills:

  • Must be agile in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and other modulesappropriate tothe practice.
  • Must have some computer graphics skills, and CAD capability is a plus.
  • Must be able to dofield workusing test equipment commonly usedin the area ofexpertise.
