HJF is seeking a Standardized Patient Trainer to support the Suicide Care, Prevention, and Research Initiative (Suicide CPR Initiative) within the Medical and Clinical Psychology (MPS) department of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. This includes Standardized Patients (SP). Incumbent creates, develops, manages, and provides quality assurance for all SP simulation activities.

This position is part-time (20 hours/week) and will be in support of the Suicide Care, Prevention, and Research Initiative (Suicide CPR Initiative) within the Medical and Clinical Psychology (MPS) department. The Suicide CPR Initiative was established in 2006, and is strategically in a unique position to focus on the problem of military suicide, given its origins at USU and its established partnerships with the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs, as well as national and international collaborators and stakeholders. Overall, the mission of the Suicide CPR Initiative is threefold: CARE: To develop effective interventions targeted at reducing suicidal thoughts and/or behaviors; PREVENTION: To save lives through education, intervention, science, and advocacy; RESEARCH: To advance suicide intervention science and practice.

  • Responsible for creation and execution of all stages of simulation development from start to finish including but not limited to: execution, managing simulation activities.
  • Training, instructing, and supervising Standardized Patients to prepare them for their roles through completion of simulation activities, providing them with timely feedback on their performance and ensuring SPs have completed all tasks to satisfy education requirements of the simulation.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities to include psychometric evaluation of teaching and assessment methods.
  • Collaborates in case development and scenario design and in teaching and evaluation exercises.
  • Logistical planning for SP simulation events which include personnel and space management, organizing equipment, and other Clinical Skills resources in preparation for data gathering during training events.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.


Supervisory Responsibilities



  • Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.



Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's Degree in education, allied health, social services or other related field required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.
  • Equivalent experience in SP trainer or in management, teaching and healthcare may serve as a substitute.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Knowledge of applicable strategies and approaches to contemporary medical education and or medical education simulation.
  • Exemplary communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical procedural concerns.
  • An ability to work independently and prioritize tasks, must be a team player, must be able to provide supervise others and provide performance feedback.


Work Environment



  • This is a remote position.


Compensation



  • The hourly pay range for this position is $30.00 Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
