TheDuke Cancer Institute (DCI)is seeking passionate and driven recent graduates to join our team asCancer Research Traineesthrough theDIRECT (Diversifying Research and Experiential Learning in Cancer Training)program, a 12-month immersive experience supported by the Emerson Collective.

This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in cancer research, professional development, and science communication. You'll work closely with mentors, contribute to impactful research, and develop the skills needed to thrive in the cancer research workforce. If you're excited about making a difference in health equity and scientific innovation, this program is for you.

Minimum Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree earned by June 2025
  • Record of superior academic achievement (e.g., GPA, honors, or other distinctions)



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Demonstrated interest in cancer research or biomedical sciences
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with scientific writing or presentations is a plus

  • Conduct cancer researchunder the guidance of a mentor and develop a mock research proposal (35% effort)

  • Develop science communication skillsby writing for peer-reviewed publications and presenting at conferences (30% effort)
