Job Description:


  • We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at a leading defense contractor. The successful candidate will have a strong background in designing and optimizing manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts, with a focus on high-volume, low-mix manufacturing environments. Experience with robotics and automation is highly desired, and the ideal candidate will have a proven track record of improving efficiency and productivity in a manufacturing environment.


Role & Responsibilities:


  • Design and optimize manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling
  • Design arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout
  • Design sequence of operations and specify procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment, and other functions that affect product performance
  • Adapt machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions
  • Incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan
  • Inspect performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigate and initiate corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality
  • Develop manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques
  • Provide guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques
  • Ensure processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for automation and process improvement, and implement robotic automation solutions as needed
  • Program and integrate industrial robots (such as Fanuc and Epson) with existing manufacturing systems, utilizing PLC programming expertise
  • Optimize and maintain automated production lines to ensure maximum uptime and throughput, while maintaining high-quality standards


Required Skills:


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on high-volume, low-mix manufacturing environments
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing principles, including lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Experience with machine design, equipment installation, and material handling
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams


Desired Skills:


  • Experience with robotics and automation, including programming and integration of industrial robots
  • PLC programming expertise
  • Knowledge of statistical process control and lean manufacturing principles
  • Certification in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or Statistical Process Control (SPC)
